Lofton Cut

Lofton looks like a tweener with a lack of size. Everybody would love for Lofton to become an NBA All Star, but reality is what it is and he's got some things to overcome.

I agree with all of that, and I also read some statements that would indicate the point was to show how vastly inferior he is as a basketball player and athlete.

I had to wake up at 5am to take a flight from Newark this morning, so maybe I'm just cranky. I'm sure I'll feel different after some rest.

I understand where you're coming from. Point taken.

I'm not trying to denigrate Lofton. AI is simply the quickest person I've ever seen, period and that's what he needs at his size to be an NBA standout.

Alright, brother. Got it and agree. and as I posted just before this, I'm blaming my "Summer Breeze Mr. Sensitivo" (as my wife calls it when I act like this) on lack of sleep.

I love Lofton as well and I said before he's my favorite UT b-ball player of all time and it would be awesome if he had a long career in the NBA. It is just funny when people compare him to Stockton or Byron Scott etc.

Try telling that to the people comparing him to Stockton, Mark Price and other stars.

I didn't compare Lofton to Stockton or Price. Gavol asked me to name a 6 ft guard who wasn't a great athlete and I named Stockton and Price.

You seem to care more about ripping someone then about reading posts, and want to take it completely out of context and say I was comparing Lofton to Stockton or Price. It gets tiring and its pointless.

Not true.

He was the icon of the unselfishish Guard. He gave and gave and gave. He is also born not only on my birthday but he is 7 minutes older than me.:salute:

I love Chris Lofton. He is a big time shooter. Can make all the shots. Has greatly improved his ability to drive to the basket and create a shot. That being said, he will be very lucky to make it in the NBA. He isn't a point guard. If he was, he would have a better chance at making it. I read somewhere that Pearl is having him work on his point guard skills in the offseason and will handle the point for the Vols next year at given times. This will definitely enhance his ability to make the NBA. But again, he will be very lucky to make it at the next level. There are other Vols who will be better NBA prospects than Chris....not a knock on him, just the truth

That was the strange thing. Being a fanatical Bob Knight fan with a satellite dish, I estimate that I saw all but about 7 or 8 games of Bailey's college career. Shooting the basketball was never Damon's greatest skill. People compared him to Alford. He was much more of the bankrupt man's Randy Wittman. Damon was about the 5th best shooter on his own team.

i would say you were a fanatical knight fan without a life.:)

It's not about ripping Lofton but the morons who think he'll be an NBA all star or starting on a team for that matter.

true, but it still doesn't feel right ripping him like this. i'm not even going to pretend to know his future successes or lack of.

I know you do, BPV, and I'm being serious about that.

But when I go through and read things like "will wash away" and your comment about AI being in a cast and still manhandling Lofton, it seems our fervor for arguing a point leads to unnecessary comments about a current UT player who probably deserves better.

I know I'm being sensitive, but I just don't like it when the hyperbole is directed at a player who's on our team and has done nothing but give us some of the best basketball years of our UT-watching lives.

Not saying everyone participating in this thread is doing it, but do you know where I'm coming from?

good post.
