Break the 3-pointer record. All he has to do is hit 4-5 a game but they have to make it to the championship game! Do you think he can do it????

Eh, its going to be close. I think he has it in him, but I do not see Lofton breaking Reddick's record in reality. I sure hope he does to shut all the Dukies up :)

Me too. But he has had a streak of 4-5 3-pointers a game.

He needs 39 to break the record. He has a maximum of 9 more games. Eight games and five per and he just barely does it. He is not, I'm afraid, going to hit five three-pointers per game. I'm not going to say NO chance, because Trent Dilfer is wearing a Super Bowl ring right now, but almost no chance. I have just about an equivalent chance of my wife leaving me tomorrow morning, conveniently in time for Ana Ivanovic to show up and declare her undyling love for me tomorrow afternoon. Not going to happen.

If he needed 29 instead of 39, I'd be all over it. But 39 is too many. He not only has to have a good-to-great game every single game, but his team has to win every game until at least the Final Four. It's too much.

If they blow somebody out in the first round of the tourney by 40 and Lofton is able to hit about three games' worth of threes, then I'll get excited. Not until then.

J.J. made his 457 3 pointers in 139 games Chris has hit his 419 in 123 games. If UT wins the NCAA or finishes 2nd the most games Chris could play would be 132. Since they both have averages slightly over 3 per game this gives J.J. a 21 3 pointer advantage just in games played.

I really wish he'd been on earlier this year...I'd say it hurt him to the tune of 10-15 3's, at least. I think he's got a shot, but it will mean lights out shooting over the next little while. Like 7-8 3's a game. He's capable of that, or more, but I'm not sure as a team we'll need him taking that many shots.

Plus look what Memphis did to him. We won the game, of course, but defensively they were determined to keep him from wining the game with the three. I just can't see Lofton averaging five threes a game against the better teams in the tourney whether we make the Final Four or not.

And honestly, considering the remarkable way that Lofton's shooting improved at almost the same instant that he passed the SEC mark in Lexington, I can't say that I'm that disappointed that the NCAA record is pretty much out of reach. We don't need him thinking about it.

man what if he blows up the first game of the tourney and hit 10-12 threes...then how realistic is it?

All right, I'll play. Let's say he hits five a game for three games in the SEC tournament; now he's 24 down with potentially six games to play. That's four a game. If he comes out and hits 10 in Round 1, then he'd be down only 14 with (potentially) five more games. And at that point you rub your eyes and sit up straight.

He's going to have to light it up early, though. He's not going to consistently hit five or six against anybody in the rounds of 16, 8, 4, etc.

If he does get close to the record, I doubt that it would be enough to distract him from the team goal that would then be at hand.

Last year's ankle injury diminished his chances more than his start to this season, IMO.

Just depends on who we draw in the tourneys. For instance, if we were to hypothetically get SC, VU, and UK in the SEC tourney, I think he could hit 16 or so. If we draw LSU, Arky, and MSU, he will get closer to 10. It also depends on the teams in the NCAA tourney we pull.
