Loften Double Signed

with EB going pro, with ER attempting to go pro, JJ skating on thin ice cuz of academics and discipline, and all the hype that EL has gotten... yeah Id say this pretty huge in the short term..

Also to put things in perspective, this is how our Defensive Back recruiting went this year:
- Couldn't sway Elam from UF
- Missed on Dequan Menzie (to BAMA!!!)
- Finally get a commitment out of A. Dixon, and then he decommits after CLK left
- get Loften (Dooley's first big pick up) who essentially replaced AD
- now we won't even land him

Therefore, here is our defensive backfield in this class:
- Marques Dixon will hopefully turn out to be a stud, but most of his hype has been focused on his returning abilities
- Ted Meline will be moved from WR to DB, so who knows how he will adjust to that
- Dontavis Sapp won't play an SEC down except on special teams

With Eric Berry, we really should have pulled a couple HIGHLY rated defensive backs in this class and last class. Looks like all we will end up with is JJ - lets hope we at least get him for 3 more years.

Will be moved to OLB, don't count him out either. Don't forget that we still have Myles, Oliver, and Gordon from last years class.

Dang man I had high hopes for this kid. So what are the odds he won't be with us this yr? Lets say he's not do you think he'll still choose to come here after he gets his credits?

Don't forget about Dave Clark! I think he's got all the tools right now to step in from day one. I like what VolFootball55 is saying as well.

Man....you guys are making me think that Darren Myles, Jr. stinks since you all aren't even bringing him up....he didn't get much opportunity last season but was a beast in high school...I think he can still be great for us...Loften gone will sting but I think Myles, Jr. will pick up the slack for us at SS and have a great career.

Question is will we be looking for JUCO safeties in a year or two? I hope not.

Yea but he's gonna be good man and atleast with him it's not like it's a Juco safety we haven't evaluated yet, it's one that we've already evaluated and got pumped up about playing in orange. I agree Juco wouldn't be the way to go normally, but in this case I'd make an exception and go ahead and sign him up if he still wants to play here when that day comes.

Good point. Plus having him would give us a tie to a very good high school program in fertile Texas recruiting ground.

These guys know what it takes to play D-1. Why do they screw around in high school---when all it takes is attending class and paying attention. I'll bet Dooley doesn't mess with many iffy qualifiers FNO.

Rucker just said that having a JUCO back up plan doesn't mean he won't qualify, just that a back up plan. His high school coach has said it wasn't a done deal he was going the JUCO route.

I just read an artilce that Lofton and his coach both said that it is a precaution thing...Just in case he does not make the grades. He is not gone just yet...I dont know what his grades really are but his coach thinks he will be fine!

What I read was that he took the SAT for a second time......He took a prep SAT course in the fall and is now waiting on the results of the second test.....everyone thinks he will be fine. Keep your fingers crossed!!!

He needs to boost his SAT by a couple 100 points... not easy to do, but it can be done...

I have always wondered this, but what is the difference in the SAT and ACT? It seems to me that most people in this area take the ACT, but was just wondering.

You don't need an SAT to get into UT because I was admitted to UT and I only had an ACT score, so which test he is taking shouldn't matter that much because they will take both. The reason kids do not have high scores on these tests is because they are not willing to put in the work. If you take a prep course and pay attention to what your instructors are saying, you can increase your score greatly. And I would know this because I jumped up 4 points on the ACT after taking a 5 night course, and 4 points is a lot on the ACT. A person that I respect greatly once told me to always study hard, work hard, and play hard and if you do those 3 things, you will be great at whatever you do. That would be a good piece of advice for him or any other high school player for that matter.

The ACT tests your knowledge and ability to do college level work and the SAT tests your general thinking and problem solving.
