Loften has apparently double signed. He is listed as a signee on the Narravo Junior College list which means that there is legitimate concerns that he will not qualify academically.

So, what kind of situation is this guy in. Is he not going to be able to play here this year or what?

He basically needs to pull off a Derrick Rose Miracle Test Score. :shades: :crossfingers:

That also means he's free game to be rerecruited so we'll have to spend another whole off season or even two trying to keep him in the fold.

Ward reporting on Sports 180 that Loften's academics may not allow him to play at UT in the fall..

I would almost rather he went on to Junior College and re-recruit him than to have to wait on a decision from the NCAA. How long did it take to finally get Gerald Williams here?

That guy Ahmad Dixon is on that list too, he was supposed to go to Tennessee but backed out and going to baylor but something isn't right.

Our class takes a HUGE hit if he can't be a part of it. Sure he was just one guy, but he was what most stood out on the defensive side of this class (besides maybe c. miller and j. smith).

This is really disappointing.

Maybe we can hope for a miracle in that A. Dixon and Loften will become best friends and both end up at UT in 2 years... doubtful tho

It's not really a huge hit without him. I mean, I think he'll be really good one day, but as far as the short term, it's not really that bad.

with EB going pro, with ER attempting to go pro, JJ skating on thin ice cuz of academics and discipline, and all the hype that EL has gotten... yeah Id say this pretty huge in the short term..

Also to put things in perspective, this is how our Defensive Back recruiting went this year:
- Couldn't sway Elam from UF
- Missed on Dequan Menzie (to BAMA!!!)
- Finally get a commitment out of A. Dixon, and then he decommits after CLK left
- get Loften (Dooley's first big pick up) who essentially replaced AD
- now we won't even land him

Therefore, here is our defensive backfield in this class:
- Marques Dixon will hopefully turn out to be a stud, but most of his hype has been focused on his returning abilities
- Ted Meline will be moved from WR to DB, so who knows how he will adjust to that
- Dontavis Sapp won't play an SEC down except on special teams
- Dave Clark who may turn out to be a stud but his upside isnt that EL's

With Eric Berry, we really should have pulled a couple HIGHLY rated defensive backs in this class and last class. Looks like all we will end up with is JJ - lets hope we at least get him for 3 more years.
