What exactly does the local media do around here?
To this day we have no idea what the status is on John Currie. Has anyone from the local media questioned the UTAD on Currie's firing and buyout? Or, Butch's buyout and the fact that he seems to not be pursuing any coaching opportunities?
Are there any real journalists in this town? Or do they just sit around and wait for a press release?

Honestly, I think they sit around and wait to be spoonfed information and stories, and then revolt like a bunch of toddlers when they don’t get what they want when they want it because they have been conditioned that way. Mostly the KNS, but some others as well.

Media isn't what it used to be. KNS neutered by owned by Gannett and more a rehash of syndicated stories not delivered in a timely fashion. The days of running to a newspaper machine on a Sunday to read about the Vols is over.

As much fake news is out there on twitter, it is still the new pulse and place where breaking news happens, if you know who to follow. Then you got Jimmy Hyams, bless his heart.

Agree on first and last questions. Could care less about update on Currie or Jones.

And there's your answer. Follow the money. That's what journalists do. You should adjust your expectations for such.

Local media? What exactly..

Better Question............WHO is the local media?

Are you talking about the couple of guys left at the Knox
Newsless.
Are you talking about all the new youngins at the TV Stations? Are you talking about ALL the talking heads attempting to get noticed on Local Radio.....AM and/or FM. Most of the Radio Gang outside of Tony are X Jocks that want to be noticed or supposedly have inside info.
Tuff Question. LOCAL MEDIA......Oxy Moron?
Who was the Female Reporter that broke the story on Currie being fired. Few had heard of her until that?
I listen to Tony if for NO other reason it IS entertaining. As for in depth breaking stories, few and far between.

It’s been less than two months. All Butch’s agent has to do is throw his name around. Butch “actively pursuing” a job is as nonstory as nonstory goes.

It’s also most likely there is no news to report on Currie’s battle against Tennessee through the holidays.

Local media options are the likes of Mike Griffith, John Adams, and Wes Rucker. That should tell you everything you need to know.

I bet the staff is pretty buttoned up too. It is their ass if Butch gets fired. Spreading negative information puts their jobs at risk. Probably the only way to get a real look into a program is to follow the player's social media.

That combined with Print media like Newsless supplementing articles from USA today or Nashvedgas brainiacs like Rexrode.
It is amazing to see a sports story in the Newsless and then go to a Maryville Times for instance and see a better article being written??

Are you serious?

He's been placed on leave. They are going to fire him with cause. Just getting their ducks in a row first.

CBJ isn't exactly a hot commodity. He's owed his full buyout as of right now.

Unless you just haven't paid attention all of these things have been answered.

Right, no one is knocking on Botch's door just now. A few of his assistants have found employment.

I think the Currie thing is in limbo right now because of the legal dispute between him and the University. The University wants to fire him for cause so they don't have to pay his buyout. I am not sure there is anything to report until that is settled. As far as local media, I have a higher opinion than most on here for Jimmy Hyams. But Mike Strange retired recently and he was a well respected local sports reporter.

Investigative journalism ended with Woodward and Bernstein.

Unless you count partisan hacks as investigative journalists, investigative journalism ended a long long time before Woodward and Bernstein. Without admitting to partisan hijacking of agendas, maybe investigative journalism never was.

The scary thing is not sports reporting but investigating our local government to insure things are as they should be or close to it. There is no one who is covering our crooked and idiot political people. That is one of the major jobs local media has. It’s not being done due to the corporate owners of the local newspapers firing all their staffs. Nobody is watching the hen house. Sad.

I don't believe he gets fired for cause. If there was cause he would have been fired not suspended.

IMO, there is something very amiss and I don't think Currie is the only guilty party.

The media was in the thick of things with the Schanio ordeal and there has been much backlash over that. It is a very thin line between responsible reporting and slander. There was some very potentially damaging "rumors" out there with the suspension and the subsequent hire of Fulmer.

The local media lost a lot of credibility and is losing more as we find out who wasn't interviewed etc. There is probably very good reasons why they are keeping their mouths shut.

What are you talking about? He's suspended with pay while they determine if they can fire him for cause or will have to pay him the buyout. That story has been reported on ad nausem here locally. The lawyers are working on that one, there's no one to question on it until the general council's office renders a decision. No one else will comment because ANY comment could affect that situation.

Butch doesn't have to actively pursue a football job for a calendar year from the end of the season in which he was terminated to receive his full buyout, so there's nothing to report there. As long as his agent speaks to teams on his behalf before next December, he'll receive the full amount.
