I was a bit surprised to hear my local sports talk radio station hammering the dean of SEC coaches. They mentioned the squibble kick that gave UCLA the ball on the 40 for their last drive. The prevent D. Fumbling Foster and nervous Johnny C under pressure. Typical stuff everybody's complaining about.

The local guys here in Austin said 1) Tennessee fans have a right to be pissed off about our poor coaching, and 2) they never pick Tennessee because they have no faith in our coaching staff.

Most of the Sports Talk guys up here in DC have been tearing Tennessee a new one. They said:

"It's only an upset if it's unexpected. Even with far more talent, Fulmer found a way to be outclassed by better coaches"

I hear the term outcoached and outclassed a lot in reference Fulmer or should I say TCHFCATUTK.

This morning in my exercise science class (I go to Texas Tech), my teacher wanted to talk about the upsets in college football this weekend. Of course the UCLA game was mentioned, and she made the comment that Tennessee is always overrated. It's nice to know that the Vol's football program has lost all respect as any kind of national competitor, even by casual fans like her.

I'm sure the average fan views UT much the same way I do Clemson, Virginia Tech, or Cal.

Maybe those on this board that keep whining about us not getting respect from the media will shut the hell up. You have to earn respect and we took a major step backward toward achieving any semblance of respect due to that inept performance Monday night.

Everyone in Gainesville hopes your administration keeps phil around for a long time. I do sympathize with the fans though, remember we had to suffer thru some horrible losses with Zook before our $$$$$ men decided enough was enough.

But in that scenario, you had the distinct advantage over our situation... your coach and AD not being backslapping pals in the same good ole boy club.

I have a Gator fan working next to me who said he thinks Fulmer is a great coach and one of the best ever.
I think UF fans just like to tease us about our coach. I also think UF fans want us to keep Fulmer as long as possible - they probably have the same opinion of Bowden at FSU.
As for our fan base, I have met people who believe Fulmer has no respect in the coaching community and have met people who believe the exact opposite.
As for me, I thought winning the East last year was enough to retain our coach - apparently it was enough for a 10-year contract with an escalating salary.
Well, we're only 0-1. There are a lot of big games left.

As a Gator fan I do hope you keep him around. The one thing about Phil IMO, and I think alot of you share the same view, is you never know what you're going to get from week to week, and as a fan there's nothing more frustrating. Win or lose with Urban, he's pretty consistent, and readily accepts all blame for a loss.

You're lucky. Your first NC coach left just as his elite run was starting to lose steam. Ours stayed. Then, it was easy to push out the coach you didn't like, because he hadn't been there very long and also wasn't gaining much respect (frat incident).
If Spurrier had never left UF, I think your program would be in similar shape to ours right now.

I would disagree a little with you. I honestly don't think SOS would have had a losing season at UF, or not play in BCS games in 7 yr stretches. (his last game was the Orange Bowl). He just didn't seem to accept losing like Phil might, it ate at him. He had grown tired of recruiting and the expectations of fans, so he got out.... Phil could learn from that maybe.

I live in Knoxville and I never see or hear all these people who supposedly support Fulmer.

OK, maybe not as bad. You're probably right. After all, UT and UF can't be down at the same time for long. But, I definitely think the elite run SOS had at UF was coming to an end - at the very least, annual domination of the SEC was over.

listening to finebaum and some of his guests, they were really suprised about how bad we played. they agreed that it was a sign of a declining program. i know that many people hate finebaum on here, but his comments were pretty fair and objective.

i agree, the most consistent thing phil does is abandon the run too soon. everthing else is up for grabs. there is no consistency within the game.

Sports talk here in Miami is even bashing Fulmer, In fact laughing at him and the program...They go on to humbly admit they have had thier own problems down here with the Miami program but at least they know when to make a change, they said Fulmer is driving a once proud program into the ground with a prehistoric style of football that just will not get the job done anymore.....They are right
