Local La Tech sports radio

On my way to work this morning, I was listening to local La Tech sports radio, as they were going through the 4 possible job openings for the SEC. They mentioned that they usually laugh off the Gruden to college X rumors, but the Gruden to TN rumors may actually have some legs, if Dooley is indeed fired.
What I found most interesting though, was their analysis of Dooley. They said he had done a great job of turning TN's program around from a talent/competitive standpoint, but that he just couldn't get the wins. They went on to say that was his modus operandus for his career, including Tech. Ouch. Considering Tech is ranked for the first time in forever, and they are doing it with 27 of Dooley's seniors, is that a fair analysis? Would he be doing the same thing at Tech this year, if he was still there with the seniors he recruited? Is he just a year or so away from breaking through here? Or are the La Tech radio guys right in their analysis that he's great at building competitive, but not winning teams?
Personally, I would hate to miss the window to get Gruden if that is a legit possibility, but feel pretty certain that we haven't given Dooley a legit shot to answer the above questions.

Dooley may have recruited those kids. He did NOT coach them to a top 25 team. That is 100% Sonny Dykes. Trying to give a coach credit for something 3 years since he was gone is crazy. How did our group of freshman look after a year of Dooley's coaching? You really think 27 players Dooley signed as freshman recruits were throw right into the mix at Tech their 1st year? Somehow, I doubt it. I would guess he had little to nothing to do with where that program is now.

If the sport was basketball, Dooley is what we call "a poor bench coach"

La Tech has 13 Senior starters. He did recruit those guys to Tech, so he deserves some portion of credit, it may be minimal, that is debatable.

Its the same scenario as the Mike Shula players. Pretty good players at Bama that never won, then Saban came in and those same players started winning after a couple of years of great coaching. Plus Saban sprinkled in a few 5 star freshmen to start immediatly to fill the gaps.

Bingo! I agree 100%, and I think most people would, but the question is, is 30 minutes long enough to smoke a good briscuit? Maybe it is in the SEC? I'm not saying it's not, I just think it maybe a bit more complicated then alot of the fans want to think it is.

That's where I think this situation pivots if we win out. Are we opportunists for Gruden, or an extended opportunity for Dooley.

another issue with dooley is he cant keep the players he recruits ..some of them get arrested as with all programs but a lot of good talent leave cuz they r not happy ...so at law tech would all 27 seniors be there if he was coach ? cant say for sure but I doubt it !

Having physical capable bodies in on the field is one thing.

Game planning, developing/enhancing players talents, X's and O's to utilize those players, making adjustments during games versus the opponent to win.....that all falls on coaches.

So why does everyone blame Fulmer for the wreck this team is now, fours years post? The blame and credit goes to the current coach after three years. What scares me is will it be another three years of losses with a new coach? Lord I hope not.

we want a coach that consistently puts a winning team on the field. every year. we dont want to only win every four years when all the talent is about to graduate...

I was just wondering out loud if a little more patience is in order. Hey, we may lose to Troy here in a little bit, and then I would be ready for him to go to. I'm not saying he is the solution here, I'm just saying maybe we haven't given him quite enough time, given the circumstances he inherited.
We are definitely more competitive this year. Maybe next year he starts winning. Who's to say?

In a metaphorical sense, Dooley, what's wrong with being the primer painter before the finishers come in with their power sprayers and gloss paints for the final coats??

Both jobs are just as important as the other....

And losing or not losing to Troy is the measuring stick??? Who the eff have we become UAB???? Get that trash outta here....Either he gets a pass or he doesn't, I hope he doesn't. Coaching matters, that is exactly why Meyer and Saban came in and won a NC with "previous coaches players"......Chizik had an extra 180k laying around for Cam Newton!!!
