Lloyd Lee for LB coach....

Lee being on the market now helps. May be easier than trying to pry him away from somewhere. This is one of the positions we have not heard many names thrown around for.
He may be the first legit one.

I dunno getting fired from a job where he was in charge of Urlacher? How hard can that job be?

:) Good point!......but they actually got rid of most of the defensive coaches so I still bet he is a great coach.

That would be a great hire.

Not sure if he would want to come back to the college game...he could easily stay in the NFL if he wanted.

But you never know, especially the chance to work with Monte.

This might have legs as now Norton Jr is most likely not an option - he may be the next DC at USC.

I don't think he will be in play. He doesn't have any college experience. He was a scout so he may know talent.

You can't rule out much right now, I never saw him going after Garner.
Next thing you know he is on a plane to Knoxville.

Heard on ESPN, that a lot of his staff at the Jets is going with him.
Not sure who. May not be a spot for him.

Lee would be a good coach and has ties to Monte and Lane. I like the fact he was a scout and had to evaluate talent. I think we have made alot of bad evaluations over the last decade around here. He also recruited NFL free agents at TB. I am sure it is alot different recruiting an NFL player compared to a college kid.

Don't hire Lloyd unless he brings Lance Briggs, Brian Urlacher, Hunter Hillenmeyer and Nick Roach with him. But I'm pretty sure they don't have any eligibility left.

Lee only strived in the shadow of Ron Rivera (up until the Bears loss in Super Bowl XLI). Then HC Lovie Smith fired Rivera so he could hire his friend DC Babich who has turned a top five ranked defense in 2005 and 2006 into a defense that ranked 28th in 2007 and 21st in 2008.

good post! I really didn't think of it that way. I really just thought about Urlacher.

I can't believe anyone would fire Ron Rivera after that Defense led them to the Super Bowl. Stupid move!

Trust me, as a life long (20 years) Bear fan, I have grown accustomed to over analyzing the used-to-be dominant defense of the Bears.

Smith fired Rivera because he wanted to hire Bob Babich who was a friend. Babich (and some aging) ran the defense into the ground.

Additionally, Lloyd played safety at Dartmouth in college (not linebacker) and was originally hired as a 'defense quality control coach' with the Bears before being moved to nickelbacks coach and then moved to linebacker coach this time last year.

...Lance Briggs (the biggest ego problem in the NFL) likes Lee as a LB coach.... [this from The Chicago Tribune]

"Linebacker Lance Briggs figured Lee's status was in doubt. He had planned to take Lee to the Pro Bowl next month in Hawaii, but Lee unexpectedly canceled the trip Monday night.

"I've always liked Lloyd Lee," Briggs said. "He was a preacher of fundamentals. He didn't miss out on any details. If there was something in the playbook we needed to know or prepare for, Lloyd made sure we knew it. He would repeat it until it was beat into our minds."

Former Lions defensive coordinator would love to join Bears -- chicagotribune.com

Briggs talking him up like that certainly surprised me. I think there is better talent out there for the Vols LB coaching vacancy.

Sounds pretty solid on fundamentals though. He's also a fairly young guy, and judging by what Briggs said, he had the respect of a veteran LB group in Chicago.

Maybe he would be able to relate and build relationships even better at the college level. I think I could coach LB's, though, if the 'walk around coordinator' (as Monte described it) Monte Kiffin was my boss.
