Video Introductory Press Conference: Jeremy Pruitt - University of Tennessee Athletics
Bev Davenport
-Fulmer is the most dedicated Volunteer I've ever met. He loves this university.
-Fulmer has been full in and worked tirelessly.
-Thank you Jeremy Pruitt for taking on this opportunity.
-We are really excited you are a part of our Volunteer family.
-Fans are passionate and warm and welcoming.
-Pruitt started his class in a kindergarten to third grade classroom. He's a teacher. He told me he wants to win championships and I told him Tennessee expects you to.
Phillip Fulmer
-It's been great working closely with Chancellor the last six days. She's all in.
-I've spent five days interviewing exciting mean with both offensive and defensive backgrounds.
-The goal was to go find the best coach to get our football program back to its championship tradition.
-Coach Pruitt's reputation precedes him. He's a teacher and he changes lives. He's a man of integrity and he's a great fit for our Tennessee family.
-He's been part of four national championships at two different schools.
-His energy and personality is infectious.
Jeremy Pruitt
-I'm honored at humbled. When you talk about tradition, I grew up in a small town in Alabama where I knew all about the tradition of Tennessee and the great teams of Neyland, Dickey, Majors and Fulmer. There was a time when this university was feared, and my goal is to get us back to that point.
-Thank you for the opportunity.
-It's rare as a first time football coach that you work for a guy who's done what Fulmer has done.
-My vision for our football team is to be a big, fast, dominating, agressive, relentless football team that nobody wants to play.
-It starts with recruiting and it started today with the guys on our team. I met with the entire team. These guys are ready to get started.
-It starts with positive energy: from employees, to fans, to boosters and former players.
-We are going to put together a staff. Theres no substitute for good people. I'm looking for teachers. Will coach them how to go to class, how to introduce themselves, how to take notes and everything they'll do here.
-The staff will be good recruiters and be loyal to Tennessee.
-Recruiting is the lifeblood of any organization and we're going to start in this state. This is going to be our state. This is still a people business. We are going to start as soon is this meeting is over. I'm going to be short so I can get to work.
-I want guys who have a plan and want a degree.
-Expectations: I expect to win every game we play.
-What are we going to do on offense. We have to create balance. We have to dominate the line and be able to run it when we want to. We want to create explosive plays in the pass game.
-We want to create an aggressive kind of defense that dictates what the offense does. We aren't going to lay back and play off wide receivers. We will challenge them.
-I got into this business for the kids.
-Dad was a high school football coach.
-You didn't draft me. I chose to be here. It's going to take everybody associated with this university to win championships. We get there with positive energy. It's contagious. People have to want to be a part of it.
-I want everyone to be this excited five years from now. Let's roll our sleeves up and get in the streets. We have to outwork everyone and it starts today.
...taking questions.
-Will work on recruiting until the dead period. I have a commitment to the kids at Alabama. Will go back after the dead period and coach Bama.
-Will take our time with the staff to get the right guys. Won't talk about names now.
-He's asked about playing 3-4 but said he'll play whatever the personnel dictates.
-As for recruiting, we need to identify who fits. In the next ten days I want to make sure we don't sign anyone who doesn't fit. Don't get all out of wack about this early signing period. Worry about the ones we get not the ones we don't.
-Can we get back to the championship level? I wouldn't be here if I didn't think we could win.
