Maurer simply needs to learn the qb slide and also needs to stop lowering his head like he’s the next Riggs! Further there have been a very many great athletes come back with many more concussions than 2. Heck, didn’t we used to play this sport with leather helmets. Give me a break...Maurer will be fine. GBO!

Thank you Dr. BluTick

Remember last year when JG was holding onto the ball and people were saying that another QB would do worse because the O-Line couldn’t protect them? Then lo and behold Mauer is getting first downs and moving the offense and the O-Line actually looked halfway decent. It is stupid at this point to continue to keep JG as the starter. I can’t emphasize that enough. It is stupid.
Was that the game Maurer put up 259 yards, 2td and 1 int against Georgia and JG got a whopping 14 yards?

I'm "on" a thing called "actually watching game footage" rather than simply stating moronic opinions. So shut your yap if you don't know what you're talking about, kid.

Maurer high school rushing stats:
Junior, 51 carries for 259 yards, 5.1 ypc
Senior, 80 carries for 466 yards, 5.8 ypc

Dobbs high school rushing stats
Junior, 66 carries for 200 yards, 3.0 ypc
Senior, 98 carries for 419 yards, 4.3 ypc

What's more, Maurer played on a MUCH WORSE team than Dobbs. So Maurer put up those stats with a weaker supporting cast.

Like I said, this doesn't mean Maurer will be better than Dobbs, but it totally discredits your "he's not athletic" crap. You've not even watched him.

But I also think you're grossly misattributing what made Dobbs special. His athleticism was good, but he wasn't Cam Newton or Michael Vick. Dobbs had great vision, brains, and instincts to go along with his athleticism.
I'm not advocating one way or another here but stats like those can be very misleading. For instance quality of competition, offensive scheme can skew those stats wildly.

14 first half offensive points on 2 outstanding plays. That was it. No sustained drives.
Key was ZERO turnovers and the GIFT turnover TD we received from them.

I think Georgia understood this and bet on JG's inability to continue making perfect passes, deep and to the sidelines. There was basically no intermediate passing game. I think Georgia felt good about loading up on the run so we never backed the linebackers off. They never hesitated coming in hard.

I expect Kentucky to deploy this same tactic because JG can't consistently beat a defense with pressure in his face. The middle of the field doesn't appear open to this offense.

He was blaming the lack of discipline by the team on the coaching staff. That kind of lack of discipline is a big problem and it's up to the staff to correct it. He was really coming down on the staff, especially the offensive staff.

Sorry that was so vague. Trying to listen and type at the same time

I saw a lack of discipline on both sides of the ball. It's just the defense made more plays for as long as they could.

That might work, but our Oline can push their defense around. We can run against the Cats.

You obviously were not there for the 2nd half of the Oregon Ducks beat down in the rain at Neyland where Dooley and Chip Kelly put teams on the field. We were tied with them at the half. We literally could not do anything but put on a clown show the second half. At least against UGA this past Saturday our defense showed up, even in the 2nd half holding them to field goals when turned over in field goal range.

The Quote:
"I can NOT recall a Tennessee Offense that has had THIS bad of a 2nd Half"
Was Doug Mathews quote from the Show...

Oh...and I WAS at the Ducks game...it was bad...but I think Saturday in Athens was worse...as Tennessee actually had a CHANCE to win...which I don't think (my opinion) existed at the same level going into the Oregon game. There was hope, but not any real expectations of a victory, like Saturday.

which is exactly I would have put him in for at least one series right after the half to confuse the GA defense. You run a 2 minute offense to get down the field and score again after keeping GA out of the end zone, you're making a statement. I think the team played better with Maurer on the field. That is the impact he has.
Wrong.

Anyone that thinks that hasn't actually watched Maurer's high school game footage. You're grossly underestimating him. Maurer was actually a better scrambler in high school than Dobbs. Just cuz he's white, doesn't mean he's "less athletic."

His athleticism is not the issue. He made a lot of mental mistakes last year and it's not clear how durable he is. Those are the concerns with Maurer. But you're flat-out wrong if you don't think he's as athletic as Dobbs. Dobbs may end up being the better QB of the two, but if so, it's mostly because Dobbs learned the game better and had better instincts. Not because he's more "athletic." They're pretty similar athletically.

Agreed! Additionally, Dobbs has an intangible asset in that he could sense pressure coming and use his quickness to get out of it.

His ability to make quick decisions under pressure while not perfect it made him difficult to stop. Unfortunately, JG doesn’t possess these skills. The little bit that I have seen from Mauer last season is promising because he does seem to have similar abilities.

Unfortunately, for the Vols Pruitt is going to live and die with JG and we will just have to accept it.
