Little Love for Dobbs in ESPN!!

sounds like they love us
no hate in that article

I agree. I read it twice and do not see anything but good news about us. We have our starter and he is gaining reps with the ones. That is making him better and CBJ has kept his ego in check after breaking out against SC. They talked positive about his production, his demeanor, and his opportunity to lead us.

Some on here feel ESPN hates us and will always diss them regardless. Some on here are absolutely clueless!!

That's part of the reason, but not the only one.

He wasn't ready because he wasn't consistent enough throwing the ball in practice. They loved his potential and wanted to hopefully get through this year with Worley and Peterman so they could redshirt Dobbs and preserve a year of eligibility for him. When Worley went down, that plan went by the wayside as Dobbs was forced to play so that UT could have a chance to go bowling. The rest is history.

You're right. Early in practice he wasn't able to make good reads.
He was also locking in on one receiver.
Another problem was that he wasn't anticipating throws, he was waiting for someone to be completely open or trying to force it.

I agree, but in fairness, we weren't at full strength at WR just about all year.... we should start the season at full force at the WR position and will now have P Williams, so this, along with Hurd, Kamara, and Bussey running people over, Dobbs should be in his element and open up passing lanes a little better than the second half of this season.

I believe he had a serious knee injury. I kind of expect him to redshirt but we should be deep at WR with all the rest healthy (North, Von P, Pig, Croom, Josh Smith, Malone, Johnathan Johnson plus the other young bucks Wharton, Jenkins, etc.

Non-Starter Jakob Carter is only loss on WR.

I think it is silly when people say Dobbs is the main reason UT will beat Iowa. These supposed insiders from ESPN are looking for the most exciting thing to write about and get too caught up in the hype. Did they not see the Mizzou and vandy games where Dobbs was shut down passing the ball? The defense, discipline, and special teams are the main reason we will beat Iowa. Complimentary football ESPN, listen to bUTchy

I pretty much agree. I think we all love the kind of person JD is and want him to succeed but he didn't have the abilities to extend the field with his arm and reading defenses. Certainly some of that can be laid on the oline. No question he can extend the field with his legs but there were times this year out throw game was abysmal. I believe he can become a complete QB in time but the question is will a young guy come in with it all and take his spot????

The whole country will know his name by mis-season next year.

Dobbs is a good athlete. If he does not work on his passing during the off season I am afraid he will be known for the wrong thing, interceptions thrown.

We cannot be a run only team. He needs to work with an excellent qb coach this off season, improve his passing accuracy. He would then be dangerous.

Dobbs has made some mistakes this season and last. For God's sake he is a true Sophomore. The whole year he has been intended to redshirt. Has not had the reps, or timing with receivers. He is better then any of you think. CBJ obviously thinks he was the best we had considering he didn't recruit a QB last year. He has plenty of arm strength, timing has to be better.

You're right. Get anybody else other than Dobbs in there, he's horrible. Put Peterman or Wegzyn in there, even just run the wildcat with Pig or Hurd or something. Gotta pray one of the 2 true freshmen or Peterman step up next year, too. Dobbs is clearly not the answer as his performances vs Missouri and Vandy way outweigh what he did vs Bama and SCar.

Oh no Big Al, it's already decided on here and Butch better heed the collective VN opinion. Dobbs is utterly horrific and cannot be counted on. Better get Peterman, Wegzyn, Dormady, Jennings or another potential true freshman who hasn't committed to us yet ready. Dobbs can't play qb for Tennessee.

If you think the success of this season hinges on one player, you are mistaken.

Did I say that? Don't believe I did. However, if you believe that any of the other qbs on our roster next will lead us to the success that Dobbs will, you are mistaken. By the way, surely you'll agree with me that QB is the most important position on the team.

Yeah QB is the most important position on the team, but without good D and special teams, it doesn't matter if the QB is PM. With the exception of 06, all of those defenses in Indy were terrible. That's why he only has 1 ring. And I did not say Dobbs was terrible, I am a supporter of his and know he is a game changer. My point was give the whole team credit. Love what Dobbs came in and did against usc, that was crucial. Those sacks by the D are what sealed it though.
