Talkin' Vawls said we won 3 games last year with a crew that should have won much more. So if we can win only 3 last year with a group that should have doubled that, could we not also win 6 or more this year? Why or why not?

I mean we have to beat S Carolina and Missouri for that to happen. Neither are great football teams. That said we’re pretty terrible. RBs haven’t been great and neither has the Oline, QB has been terrible. It’s just hard to win versus SEC teams with those issues. Special teams and defense look much better this year but we really haven’t been tested.

Kentucky, Georgia, Bama, Florida, even Mississippi I just don’t see us having the talent to compete with this year.

We could, but it would be over-performing with the talent we have on the field. It’s highly unlikely IMO.

The most logical answer to “why not” is the talent we lost to the portal, a new staff, and a new system.

1. We could’ve beaten Arkansas and maybe Kentucky, but everybody else was clearly better than us.

2. That was a 10 game SEC schedule that bears no resemblance to this year’s schedule.

This team is not the same team we had last year. You may want to look at all the players who transferred this off season.

Last years team was poorly coached, period, end of story. There was more talent on that team but they were not a team. They were a bunch of individuals playing for the Vols. This year we have a "Team" with less talent but they are actually being coached. Our team lines up before the ball is snapped, they know what their assignment is, they swarm to the ball and are rarely out of position on D. On offense if we had a QB that was better at the deep pass we would be having a different conversation. I will take this less talented team over last years because this is a "TEAM"

We shouldve/could’ve beaten Auburn last season I think. We had a certain QB throw 3 td passes against UK and Auburn… to the wrong team.

We need a QB who can complete passes longer than 20 yards. Makes me wonder if JG would be better. Joe Milton appears to be coach Heupel's achilles heel. All hat and no cattle as Texans would say. Hooker is a backup who is a backup. Bailey is seen to not fit the system. Teams will load the box and dare us to pass until something changes.

Yes. I have said since before spring ball that this is a 6 to 8 win roster against this schedule if well coached. Nothing has happened to change my mind. In fact, some things have happened to harden my opinion in that direction. UT is still developing and on the steep part of the improvement curve with this staff. You have guys who weren't playing the first two weeks who probably will after performing well vs TTU. So this is a team that has potential and development from all appearances.

UK is at the "flat" part of their improvement curve as a team. They can develop more in the new O scheme but the players are pretty much what they are from a talent, skill, and execution standpoint.... and UTC gave them a game.

MU is worse. They have gaping talent holes. I still think they're in for a tough year.

USCe is a mess and not very well coached.

Vandy and the two remaining OOC opponents should be comfortable wins.

There's five games needing only 4 to become bowl eligible.

Barring some unforeseen rash of Covid and injuries.... this IS A TEST OF COACHING.

Hooker is a starter quality QB. IMO, the bigger question is if the team around him matches him well. The JG/Bailey pocket passer model is what these guys were recruited to play especially at WR. The one certain match to the new system is WR speed but that doesn't help Hooker much. UT IMO doesn't have someone who can really work the middle like Jennings did.

Bailey didn't earn PT and if he had been the answer in the passing game... they would have worked around his lack of running ability. He actually didn't look half bad running the other day though.

I agree with them; we should have won most of our games last year save the big 3. Roster is now depleted and we are not a good football team but have shown competitiveness and heart. As long as we prove that we can improve we should win 6 but the Pitt loss makes that harder. GBO!

They definitely should have hired him back, just like getting married again. All should have been forgiven. I mean his kid’s name is Knox even

Ky is well coached, but how can you put them in the same sentence as the other teams you named. UT has more talent than ky but they have a better qb

Lane had no interest in being here. Again we dream up this stuff but it isn’t true. His only interest was in stirring the pot.

Tennessee lost basically a whole recruiting class to transfer portal. You can look at rankings and say we have more talent but it simply isn’t true.

By what measure does Tennessee have more talent than Kentucky?
