Listening to Finebaum yesterday

1. MH was OK with the Vols going to the Music Bowl instead of the Gator bowl. The pressure came from Mike Slive.
2. There was concern about the fans that bought MCB tickets prior to UT being in the game. It would have been a nightmare for Scott Ramsey.
3. We are better off playing in the MCB on a night with no other games in a stadium that is full rather than playing in the Gator bowl. The Gator bowl will be 1/2 empty and there are other games to watch that day.

Tennessee applied some of that pressure for MSU to go to GB. The bad PR that UT was going to get for the number of fans that were going to end up eating MCB tickets was worse than the positives of going to Jacksonville.

UT breathed a sigh of relief when GB took MSU and so did Scott Ramsey, Nashville and the Music City Bowl.

JMO

That was absolutely the reality. My wife purchased MCB tickets a day after the win over UK, after I asked her to wait till the bowls were finalized. Fortunately, UT got the MCB and we didn't eat 3 tickets or sell for a fraction of face value. Miss State absolutely deserved a higher bowl than we did they had 2 more wins and beat Florida and played Auburn tight. Glad everything worked out the way it should have. For a Tennessee grad, Finebaum sure is anti UT. My wife remembers him when he went there and said he was kind of a jerk.

Additionally, I hate that he is a UT Alum.

Did you you guys know about the rumor w/ Fbaum? Well its a rumor that since The coaching situation w/football and the situation w/Pearl that MH is on the hotseat; the juice to the rumor is some UT affiliates asked if he would like the AD job and he said, "No comment."

Now what do you guys think of that?

It would be more likely that monkeys fly out of his ass.

This is the thing that pisses me off more than anything else about MH. Seriously, he didn't want to come off the cash to pay the expenses of a trip to Florida? Pathetic. Wouldn't the difference in payouts cover the cost anyway? Not to mention all the added visibility of the football program. He doesn't seem to grasp the concept that at the end of the day, winning football games will be better for business than kind of fundraising he can do of his own accord. If we ever start winning again, business will be booming, so doing what it takes to field a winning football team should be his top priority, even if it costs a little extra in the short term.

Show where He said that He did not want to come up with the cash.

People on here were saying that it would be cool to get the Gator Bowl, myself included. My I never saw anyone say that we DESERVED it over Mississippi State.

What I've read has the GB paying in excess of $2M this season with the the MCB paying in the $1.75M range.

As for TV, the MCB drew a 1.95 rating last season and the GB got a 3.95.

I'll agree that not all bowl games played after Jan. 1 are great, the BBVA Compass Bowl being an obvious example. However, the games on Jan 1 are still the upper crust of the bowls and have longstanding traditions. (The only exception to this is the bowl in Dallas that has been added to replace the Cotton Bowl)

What you are not taking into account is that the UT vs UNC matchup will draw a much higher rating than Clemson vs. Kentucky game did last year. I would much rather be the only game playing on Thursday night instead of competing against the other programs on Jan 1st.

I would not be surprised to see the MCB rating double or triple from what it was last year. It's also nice that it will help the economy in Nashville more than a lesser game and will help UT fans to save money by not travelling as far.

I also think that MH wanted to play UNC due to the incorrect perception that we were "ducking" them when we bought out of next year's game. This is a win for all parties involved. That said, it makes me sick how Slive operates and shows a clear dislike for UT athletics. The presidents and AD's of South Carolina, LSU, UT and several other schools should demand that he be replaced.

Why would a UT-UNC bowl tripple ratings from last year's Clemson-Kentucky game? It's still a regional matchup between two average teams, right? The only people watching the game outside of the home states will be degenerate bettors getting their Thursday night fix.

You underestimate the size of that demographic.
