List of Potential Head Coach Candidates

I think it's less delusional for me to think Gruden isn't going to give UT the time of day than for others to pull sources out of their asses that say he's already landed at the airport.

More or less.. whatever, there is no scale leaning to a wrong or right answer. No one believes that he is actually at the airport. A few things have been confirmed, even by ESPN guys. Gruden is putting together a staff, or a least feeling out to see who would be interested. He's either doing it for the NFL or for US. We would be the only team he is interested in coming back to coach for. Also, not all, but most of these guys do have legit sources. Keep your pessimistic views if you want, but as a Vol fan I have to believe that Hart KNOWS he has to hit this hire out of the park. If you're going to make a lateral move, you're better off keeping Dooley. The only home run hire that would scorch this earth ORANGE is Jon Gruden. Maybe Chris Peterson. But Jon is the guy we want, and years ago when we courted him it was a financial thing. That is not a problem this time around. The Haslams are basically Illuminati lol, they will get what they want. If it's a money thing, believe me.. they sling the brass to make it work. Droppin BILLIONS son.

We are not a declining program. The success of the 90's is what made it a "premier" coaching destination. The UT Nation endured many mediocre years under Majors and beyond that for that matter. With only short blasts of national relevance from time to time. Most of you do not remember the 70's and 80's. 7-4 and 8-3 was the norm. What most of you refuse to acknlowledge because of your ideology that a coach can take an empty stable and immediately make conference and national contenders out of them. In the words of the great Herbstreet, we have not been nationally relevant since 2001. That goes back long before Dooley. Win/Loss stats show we have only marginally improved this 3 years. Much less if you count that DD was hired literally moments before signing day. And we are not through the 3rd season yet. A close examination will show that he has cleaned up, sent people packing, and rebuilt the quality of recruits in a very short span of time. He made a choice for DC that has a system the same as Bama and cannot be learned in one season effectivley. Once recruits are selected for that system and they learn it, then...well you see how often teams score on them. It may seem like a bad hire now, but I am willing to bet one or two more years of patience will show we are once again natioanlly relevant an in contention for titles once again. Comparatively speaking, how many titles did PF have relative to the years he coached. I also remember Orange Bowls where Nebraska waxed our butts with CPF and Peyton Manning, among other games we choked. UF always had our number and it wasn't until Richt showed up that UGA started competing with us in recent years. The problem with most of you wanting immediate gratification is that none of you elect to remember or admit that save for one NT and a very few SEC titles back to 1992 that we have actually lived with awesome teams underperforming at the most critical times. The only reason those bevy of coaches lasted as long as they did was the demise today's sports media has imparted on the average life of a head coach with al their meddling, and these idiotic post game interviews we feel are owed to us. Bet the Bear didn't put up with that crap. My vote is to adhere to the 5 year plan, whether painful or redemptive and see where it leads us. Any coach deserves a 5 year plan regardless, unless he violates certain rules of coarse.
