If wanted to sale my collection...lots of marvel mid to late 80's (Xmen, Amazing Spider Man,etc) would it be best to go to a local store? Is there one in Knoxville? Or Ebay maybe? Anyone else done this?

I don't have any experience with comic books but I would think Ebay or some other online route would be the way to go. You get the collection in front of more potential buyers, and a dealer is going to have to leave room for a profit.

No idea man. But I love comics. Ever since I was a kid. Almost assured you’ll make more money online though. I’d guess Ebay but I’m no expert.

Buy local sell global. Don’t take them to a store. They will offer you half because they need to make a dollar. You want to sell to the end collector. Good pictures and a good description will get top dollar. I know zero about comic books but the principles apply to any collectible.

check the 'sold' listings on Ebay -- it would give you an idea of what to expect

I used to work at a place that bought and sold stuff like this in Knoxville. Ebay is your best bet. Do not go to a local store for any reason as their sales people are usually taught to not buy anything for more than 30% of theri value, just wait it out to sell online. If you have truly rare ones you can go for an auction potentially as well

A comic shop is only going to give you about 20% of what you would get on eBay. 80s X-Men and Spider-Man might bring in a decent chunk but most stuff from the 90’s are only going to fetch about 75¢/book.

Sell in lots. Group stories together if possible but cherry pick if you have something like first Deadpool or others that might sell better individually. Offer free shipping for Buy It Now but factor that into the price. Ship media mail.

Speaking from experience selling comics on eBay.

It would be better to have it appraised before you try to sell it.. Everybody will try to undercut you and take your profit on each one of the comics you’re trying to sell

I have 4 lol. I have a few uncanny X-men #1 too.

You mean the Jim Lee X-Men #1 from 1990? Or you have multiple copies of X-Men #1 from 1963 to which the “Uncanny” wasn’t added to the title until much later?

There wasn’t an “Uncanny X-Men” #1 until a few years ago when the relaunched the title.

The uncanny’s I have are from the early 90’s. Have to be. I collected for three years or so in elementary school. Still have them but I really don’t know what o have if you know what I mean.

I have X Force #1 too. Doubt its worth anything.

Problem with books from that era is it was the height of the speculator boom. Even the lowest selling titles were in the 100k realm. So really the readership is over saturated.

Sell all your X-Force in a lot like “Complete Run #1-20” or whatever you have.

If you have anything good have it graded before selling it. My captain America 100 went from about $200 to $1200 after it was graded by the cgc. Had a few more go up a couple hundred bucks each after getting graded
