Some specific questions about our linebackers.
1. Who are our fastest 2 -- Spillman and Perlotte, maybe?
2. Speaking of Perlotte ... he can add 10-15 lbs of muscle in off-season, right?
3. Who looks better of Burns vs. Harmon?
4. Any chance Gass sees reps at ILB?
5. Are incoming frosh Rouse and White EEs here for Spring practice?

Thank you.

Carter and Tee were good tacklers, but seemed to be running in quick-sand often. Also, bad angles were taken too many times in pursuit. LB core could and should improve in 2026. Speed kills.
Carter took way too many bad angles for such a veteran guy .. he either overestimated his athleticism or was slow from the jump.

Knowles is also known for playing three safeties at the same time. TN doesn’t have three quality safeties so it will be interesting.

Welp, 10 responses into it, none had responded to my 5 specific questions...

Edit: ...Then a few folks did -- thanks. Also, over in the recruiting section is a thread about Campbell, a PSU port-holer, and there is more detailed discussion of our linebacker situation there.

Perlotte can definitely add 10 or 15 lbs , I think he and Spillman have a chance to be really good and SEC caliber linebackers . Carter was athletic but seemed to be out of position or taking bad angles a lot , Telander plays with great effort , but lacks speed . Tennessee must improve big time at linebacker position and I hope the players you mentioned are capable of doing the job .

Many of those could have come from no quickness or speed. Either way there were mabad angles or LB's getting to the play after someone made the tackle.

We have been taking terrible angles for years, however they have been coaching it we need to do the opposite. Like another poster said it feels like we played without linebackers at times. Our defense looked like we were constantly trying to read and react. We’re constantly out of position. We rarely had an answer, almost always too passive and depending on the offense to make a mistake. Playing 10 yards or more offside receivers. That is not going to get it done. GBO

A lot of making plays at or near the line of scrimmage is instinct and being in the right position to start (coaching). Our LBs from last year didn’t really do either. If anything they were in the wrong spot, had terrible instincts, and were slow. Carter and Telander had played enough to be better. Unfortunately, they are who they are. We need to move on to the young LBs and hope or get in the portal.

1. Yes they both the fastest.
2. Absolutely he needs to add more weight.
3. Harmon at moment but we will see what they do in new defense.
4. No, Gas is our Leo and if he had not been hurt, would've played way more. He had the best jump out of all the Leo.
5. Yeah, think only 1 or 2 people were not early enrollees.
