It's great knowing that in a few years we'll add more names to the list.

UT, the U of Talent, Traditions and Toughness.

WIN by WIN we'll earn a Championship...VFL...GBO!!!

Kirkland will be. I also think Austin Smith as well...Maybin still may be a bit too small. Will see,

Tom Fisher never got a chance to show how good he could be, killed in a car wreck after his sophomore year, but he was on the path greatness.

AW! He was so "Freaking" scary when in his uniform and leadership on the field....no question, he was one of if not the best LB for UT.

Go Vols!!

Tommy West was drafted as a linebacker by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Does that qualify him for the Tight End U and Linebacker U lists?

I know this may be a little off topic but since we are talking about LBs. All bias aside, can anyone explain why JRM was not a consensus AA last year?

And beat them decisively both times. I saw it on the radio and will never forget it.

watching on the radio brings back some great memories from those days since that was the only way a lot of us could keep up. I became a serious vol fan at the ripe age of 10 in '65 listening to the vols and the swamp rat beat UCLA. Used to carry around my transistor radio listening to FB games and would lay in bed listening to Ray Mears coached BB teams. Howard Bayne, Ron Widby, etc.

Yep. I was introduced to the Vols at the tender age of 6 via the transistor radio.

I remember I started listening because I liked the way John Ward sounded. Have been hooked every since.

Hell fire we only had 3 channels on TV (3, 9, 12). We had the antenna right outside the window, so you could turn it from inside, cause we was sophisticated. My Dad would get mad when I took my hand off of it and the signal went away. Sometimes you had to keep your' hand on the radio to keep a signal. We've come a long way. Some good. Some bad. Good ole days. Sometimes I go back. Rocky top you'll always be.........

I came back to this thread to post Andy Spiva's name. Still the all time tackle leader for the Vols I believe.

I knew Andy and his mother, Betty, very well. What a tragic lost when he was killed in the car wreck in Atlanta. I still remember his funeral and the hordes of people who attended. We planted a tree outside the Stokley Center. I have not looked to see if that tree was destroyed during the recent razing of Stokley. If it is gone, we need to be sure to do something to replace it or honor him with something more permanent. Thanks for remembering him in this thread.

My first memory of listening to JW on the radio, was the 85 Sugar Bowl. He is without a doubt, one of the best radio voices of all time. It was something special to see JW going out calling a NC season.
