So looking back over our past few recruiting classes and who we have commited on our "target" board it appears we are going to be extremely thin at the LB position. Are there any "sleepers" out there I'm not aware of?

I think Ball (currently committed to Wisconsin) could grow into a solid LB. I don't like our chances with his brother being at Wisconsin, though.

Vereen will be a good one but our LB class sucks. Our last staff has a lot to do with that. Still enraged about the Levenberry ordeal. Also would like to know what happened with Ngakoue.

Start praying for Trey Johnson.

We are desperately needing speed at the linebacking position. Athletes that can run to the ball. We are sorely lacking in this area and I don't believe our defense will be even close to championship caliber until this is addressed. Speed is lacking everywhere on D though.

Some speed on the outside wouldn't hurt, either. I love a good LB that can get to the QB or be reliable in coverage.

We need run stoppers first and foremost. We can adjust coverages to give them help but the missed tackles and getting knocked back by runners shouldn't be happening.

Half of those missed tackles could be avoided if someone would just square up and tackle properly.

We've had pathetic tackling the last few years.

We r built to stop the run.. Only problem is when they break contain and get to the secondary.. We r tough in the middle, we just don't have enough speed to keep it inside.

Aj has the Measurables of a thumping run stopper but him getting enveloped by one on one blocks, not being able to disengage and taking on blocks with the wrong shoulder says he just isnt that guy

I feel like JRM could very well end up at OLB...in that regards an LB class of Maybin, Ball and Vereen is very legit...but in that case I wouldn't feel good about our DB haul unless we finish with Bell or someone like him at safety

We...need...SPEEEEEEEEEEEEED.

I loved Herman Lathers as a VFL and a "Rudy" type of player, but he was slower than 3 Christmases, and wasn't a great tackler. We really need some guys that are much faster and can get that outside contain that's burned us so badly in the past.

Agreed. Lack of speed at LB hurt in pass coverage. We will be ok against run.

I think looking at Central Michigan and Cinncinati and their defences gives some insight into what we might have as a scheme going forward. As such, both are better than we have been but will they be enough in the SEC? We must hope they will be to some degree until we can entice the better players to come into the fold. The thing now is to put a finger in the dike and stop the leakage or at least slow it down. I sincerely hope CBJ will be able to achieve this end.

Jalen Reeves-Maybin may have to play Linebacker out of missing out on our numbers at that position same can be said for Marcus Ball.

Signing Trey Johnson would be a HUGE get for the LB corps. I also think JRM ends up as a LB. Vereen is solid, also.

no we don't. We need wheels to get off tackle and beyond. People struggled straight at us, but killed us when they decided straight at us was difficult. We have no wheels at LB and people took advantage of us.

I think they will be better as long as we recruit and sign players of higher caliber that what CMU and Cincy can recruit. Playing in conferences of a lesser caliber, they're not always going to be able to recruit at a consistently high level enough to compete with the bigger conferences, although they may steal a stud player every now and again.

If that happens we would still end up with Cameron Sutton, Lemond Johnson, Riyahd Jones, and probably Jahmere Irvin-Sills. That is pretty solid. It isn't like none of our safety prospects were going to start maybe crack the two deep but they wouldn't start over Randolph, and McCneil. Corner was our biggest need for this class over safety anyway.
