Line Up Questions

Who could we try in left field?

Needing to add another consistent stick in the weekend lineup. Who is our best lightly used hitter who can play outfield?

I understood the decision at the time, but now I'm missing Dalton Bargo
Been struggling a bit after a hot start.

I'm one of those old school guys who believes in defense up middle.

So, I will tolerate some weaker hitting C, SS, 2B, CF.

However, the four corners gotta rake. That was the problem with Dalton last year.

In our current team, Reese and Henry are doing their part. Trying to give Levi a long lease but...

Despite Levi’s paltry average, he’s your best hitter in SEC play. He’s not going anywhere.

Grimmer has the highest ceiling. A quiet 10 homers after missing much of the early season. Sadly, he’s a draft eligible sophomore, so I doubt we see him hit his true stride as we did with guys like Dreiling, Burke and C-Mo. I’d say scouts will be salivating due to his frame and versatility to play multiple positions.

Not saying that Brown could duplicate Burke’s phenomenal Junior season, but I think he will make a huge jump both in LF and at the plate next year. He seems like a hard worker and a solid teammate.

Exactly right, he's not a bad kid at all. Its why some of the money speculation earlier in this thread and others has zero roots in reality and was sad to see. He has fun playing the game and has an insanely high ceiling.

I'm excited to see him grow.

I concur.

To mix it up a bit, I would vote to stick Grimmer out there.

Admittedly, we became extremely spoiled with our dong count over the last five years. But we really need max pop in the lineup.

I haven't been able to watch as much recently due to some weekend conflicts. So, my intel is admittedly iffy.

Love Jay to death and he is the defensive whiz up middle. The drawback obviously is lack of long ball at his size.

Whenever heathy, same with Ariel.

I was hoping Tyler would add long balls but that idea seemed to fizzle.

Do we have any more hard-hitting freshman riding the pine?

The lack of pitching depth will keep us from going far. The MSU series showed that we can be very good when the key five all have their good stuff. But, that isn't going to happen often. So, for me, we are getting close to max potential out of this specific staff of arms.

The defense isn't stellar but acceptable.

Which leads us back to the question of offense production. I do like Reese hitting second. Feels like there are other things we could try, but I don't have an answer.

Burkes chase rate as a sophomore was pretty high and so has Browns up til now , I’m pretty sure Burke didn’t play summer ball after his sophomore season and stayed in Knoxville to work on his game , Burke changed his stance and approach and turned into a terrific hitter his junior season as well as a gold glove caliber first baseman , I think Brown has the talent and time will tell if he has the work ethic and discipline it requires to take the next step

Jay’s issue isn’t homers. He just doesn’t hit and get on base. His numbers are the worst for guys getting a minimum number of starts. Wright doesn’t hit for power, but he is playing the part perfectly. 5-5 on Tuesday and he Is in the tops I’m conference for getting hit.

Pitching depth is a problem, but we do have some of the best 1-2 punches in the biz. If they can somehow get Krenzel restored, we’ll be fine.

Yes, Krenzel has been my # 1 disappointment of the returners. Haven't followed enough to understand his injury situation.

Of the new guys, sidewinder more of a one trick pony than I expected.

I guess you are right about Jay. May need to move him into the Ariel category of a glove we don't have the luxury of playing.

However, I'm not even sure we have nine true sticks on the team... forget about regard for their position.

Who are the nine best hitters against SEC level pitching?

It’s a very spotty lineup. Potential galore, but not enough guys putting it together in unison.

I don’t think he’s listening to coaching right now. Or at least able to take what he hears to the plate.

Chase Burns was the same way on the mound. At least Brown had better body language and gets along with team.

I hope Brown’s having a sophomore slump like Blake Burke did.

Some talented and gifted guys get used to hitting crappy pitches in high school because that’s all they see. He can’t hit the low pitch anywhere near as he thinks he can

I personally think that since Q left we have regressed in the S&C department. I’ve never seen a team hit more balls to the warning track than this team. It’s crazy

Q was here until like the end of November. We didn't lose all our strength in 3 months.

Just not a very big team like we have been in the past

He can't hit his way out of a wet paper bag. Is it strictly for his defense? Why not take him out and put him in the bullpen and let him concentrate on pitching and see if he does well there bc our BP definitely needs help and it couldn't be any worse.

Couldn't they move Ford to LF and put Grimmer or Newstrom at 3rd?

Just observations from my couch while I eat my feelings watching this team. They may be the most BiPolar team we've had in a long time. The talent to win it all is there and the inconsistency to miss out on playoffs entirely is there.

Crow time.?.
