Reading all of these stories and experiences, and it honestly depresses me to hear how we’ve invested hundreds of millions of dollars to renovate LNS to be a better fan experience, yet we’ve somehow done the opposite and removed all of the character and passion from the stadium by treating fans like garbage.
The stadium certainly looks pretty, but watching games on TV there still are a ton of empty seats and it sounds as quiet as a church mouse compared to what LNS used to be.
Its extremely disheartening sometimes if you've been in it through the ascension as well as visited a lot of other sporting venues. I've done both. I'm gonna be all over the place but I'm passionate about this...
The stadium is so nice, but its like walking in to a really nice hotel bar once you really experience it. Sure its nice, but there's no soul. Zero.
Its feels the same as Neyland and TBA have for years. I don't hide the fact I don't jive with Danny White and this is the heart of it. Its all so hyper focused on premium experience and revenue generation, any genuine emotional experience is gone. Its like eating out of a can every time you go. The same music, the same script, all of it. (And in LNS is a cheaper version of the other 2, example: The PA Guy) . Herd 'em in, hook up the milking machines, herd 'em out. That's the 'non-premium' experience.
Think of your favorite local restaurant. One with a single location thats been open for decades. Now imagine a PE firm bought it and franchised it as fast as possible.
THAT'S what it feels like in there.
Sports are about community and flavor. Its why we love them. The only community and flavor that exists in LNS now (and Neyland and TBA for that matter), are the pockets of regulars that show up for the majority of games. That's it. So many tickets are for corporate use, resold (a lot of them by UT, mind you), or just sit sold but unused- it filters out so many people that want to be in there. And once you are in there, there's so many hurdles to simply enjoying it (ticket pricing, concessions pricing, parking, etc, etc, etc) it filters out even more.
Add in the large swaths of premium areas that sit empty or 25% full for everything but a prime Saturday game.... the vibes are just way off. I get the game now in college athletics is money over everything. But there has to be some sort of middle ground otherwise they'll just bleed it dry and move on to the next thing...
Thank God Rodney is still out front. There's still a glimmer of hope...
