Lindsey Nelson Stadium,

Here’s the overall status plus hopefully what you’re looking for.

Not to hijack a thread about LNS, but I walked past the south side of Neyland yesterday. Our seats are in W so we don’t go to that side of the stadium much. Where the brick cladding stops, and the metal begins really looks crappy. The rust is embarrassing. I don’t understand why they don’t at least paint it black.

My assumption is there’s no return on the expense so it has minimal priority…

(I’ll hush beyond saying that. I’m still extremely heated about the pre and post game “experience” on Saturday. They deserve every bit of heat coming their way and more).

Worst ingress and egress I’ve ever seen at Neyland. Adding the fences and barricades which funneled fans into chokeholds, it was potentially a dangerous situation. Danny White and his team totally screwed this up. Reserving way too many “premium” entrances has reduced the entrance and exit gates for 98% of the fans creating a total debacle. This is 100% a problem created by administration. Never had this issue with 110,000 fans when virtually every gate was open for entrance and exit.

Its a borderline miracle there wasn't something awful happen.

One tweet whining about a 'tight footprint' doesn't fix it, either. There is ZERO excuse for what went on before and after. Z-E-R-O.

(And that's not even mentioning the issues fans needing accessible entrances and handicap access have had for 2 weeks now because 2 of 3 levels have the entire west side blocked off, along with the gate and cattle chute fiasco outside. Its been heartbreaking seeing some of the older folks and people with mobility aids trying to get in and out of the stadium the last two games. There were previously zero issues. Saturday, two of them told me staff told them the elevator they used was no longer available "with that ticket" and they'd need to go to another part of the stadium for an elevator. I'm quite sure the staff was wrong, but the fact it even left their lips is a MASSIVE issue.)

No worries. Danny has an easy fix.

This is what greed typically leads to. So much easier when everyone had a physical ticket and assigned gate. Yeah, I know that was eons ago, but the KISS rule still applies here...at least in my mind. Just another confirmation of my decision to give up my tickets and enjoy the games from my couch.

I have defended DW more than the average fan has because I’ve felt most of what he has done for the university, love it or hate it, has been in the interest of competing at the highest level in all sports.

With that being said, I won’t defend this, it was simply inexcusable. I don’t live in Knoxville anymore, but my parents do and I made the 16 hour round trip drive for the game to attend with my family in the same seats we’ve had for 30+ years. I arrived at Gate 22 at 2:50 thinking it would be more than enough time to get to my seat by the 3:40 kickoff. To my surprise, when we arrived, I saw a sea of orange and white gridlocked in front of the gate. It took my 45 minutes to move maybe 200-300 feet. I was stunned. Gate 22 had always been kind of a “hidden” gate that was easy to get in and out of with most traffic directed to Gate 21 at the front of the stadium. This was…..horrible.

I hesitate to think what would have happened if someone had a weapon. No one could move. It was like being in a mosh pit at a concert, you are simply at the mercy of the crowd. I still don’t understand how it got screwed up so bad. 30+ years of doing the same routine. It makes no sense.

I get closer every week to doing just that.

With what my tickets and parking are at, it would be CHEAPER to buy a new 65" TV for EACH home game. The experience used to more than make up for it, but its like they find a new way to make it worse each week.

Sometimes folks get these "great ideas" which over complicate situations or just simply weren't thought out. I don't know the particulars, but I suspect somehow, someway a rush to get more technology into the situation is the culprit. Everyone wants high tech. Makes things work faster, easier and cooler....when it works. The more dependent we become on it, the more these sorts of situations will pop up. I know this is a new generation, but I really do miss the days of physical tickets that you could keep a portion of after entry. Collecting game programs with ticket stubs and lineups was a really good thing to this old fan. In my mind, it worked so well for so long....if it ain't broke, why try to fix it?

I kinda split the difference. I have multiple framed collections of my ticket stubs going back 35 years. I adore them. The artwork on them is something I still look at when I walk by. One of my favorite days of the year was when the UPS package with the season tickets arrived at my parents' house, and later my own home.

But I do like knowing its next to impossible to 'lose' my tickets now.

They do have multiple reasons for switching to electronic- some I like, some I don't. On the positive, tickets are much harder to fake (which was becoming a massive issue), tickets are easier to transfer to someone far away, and tickets can be updated with new info as needed (we see it in baseball a lot). Plus, the aforementioned not worrying about losing the tickets, having the right ones on you, etc.

That said, they also do it because it is cheaper and it also gives them a huge amount of data. The last one they don't talk about a lot. They know who utilized it, which gate, what time. Which tickets were unused. Which were sold, where they were sold and for how much (if sold through Ticketmaster, etc). Even if it was a face to face cash sale, they know who it was transferred to (when and where in most cases). At each step they collect more data.

Also gives them 'control' over the tickets as well. We've seen some pro sports franchises (and I assume colleges) reclaim tickets that were bought only to be flipped, but the orgs seem somewhat cautious and quiet about doing it so far.

Agree.

What was the intended purpose of moving the band route in the first place? What was perceived to be wrong with it?

Seats are black. Have been for a while. I’d prefer a light gray. Those seats get hot as fire.

They could make them whatever color they wanted if they'd get the mesh type seats. As much as I gripe about money stuff that's an upgrade I'd GLADLY pay for.

I'm about to send this to my ticket rep and beg. I know LNS is years out from needed new seating, but I have north endzone seats and neyland and these would be game changers...
