The students a year or two ago…I agree.

But last years students that sat there were embarrassing. I sat 10’ from them. For the weekend series, you were lucky if you had a dozen or so that actually showed any energy. The rest just sat.

I’m assuming they changed to assigned seats for them or something. The only time the vibe was close to the Legends group of 2021/2022 was when it rained and thinned out the socialites and the animals (I use it as a term of endearment) could congregate down front. I’m honestly hoping getting them out to right will bring some of that back.

Correct. Used to be wilder in 2021 and 2022 because they sat closer. It was a hornets nest. Total madhouse. But when you bring in the high dollar people who are just there to be seen or be sociable it takes away from the "hornets nest" environment. Still a good time don't get me wrong. But it was so much wilder and louder those seasons.

Baylor program has been down for a few years. I tuned in a conference game; iirc, about 200 people there.

The sitting area was not the problem. The last couple of years the ushers have been pressed by the people sitting around them to make them sit down and not be so wild. I actually went down there 2 years ago when I found out what was happening and encouraged it. I told the fans around them to stand up and cheer or move. The fans paying for seats pushed them to right field. But the group in 21/22 was led by about 5 guys who made everyone else get up and get excited or leave the student section.

I can confirm this that the ushers told the students to sit down and behave in 24. Ridiculous and I’m sure not what CTV wanted for their hornets nest environment.

A person in the know told me they can’t knowingly let people move into the empty prime seats behind home. At one point that was allowed, but in another sport, while watching the game on television, a holder of prime tickets saw someone he didn’t know occupying his seats. An irate phone call was made to the athletic department which ended letting people occupy those prime empty seats.

The times I came close to deserving it, nary a peep from anyone. (Never drinking, never cursing, but boy, we did our oppo research well on the visiting teams, and we used our intel freely!)

I was there with them for most games from 22-24, they do “research” waiting in lines on Friday waiting in line, and spread it around for the rest of the weekend. Also a little known fact, if u still have ur volcard you can get student seats

They’re at the mercy of their bosses, just as most of us are in the working world. Personally, I’ve been going to those games for decades and have honestly seen nor heard an ugly interaction involving the ushers. I will also say that it could happen, but I haven’t heard that.

I love an enthusiastic student section, but some of the things I’ve heard from some are pretty classless. There’s competition and support of your team, but please show some class.

I absolutely get this. I have a great relationship with most of the ushers. There are a couple that are ego maniacs but most are just fans and love UT.

There was a guy yelling about raping an opposing player's mother, and the language was so bad that a guy sitting near me (in the adjacent section) with his kid had to get up and leave. I mean, I cuss like a sailor, and it had me cringing. I certainly wouldn't want to be the usher that has to step in the middle of that to try to calm it down. Yell, yes. Heckle, yes. Be a complete sociopath? Not so much.

Good stuff. For a well-seasoned guy, I’m on my feet a lot and putting out the energy at all Vol games. However, there is a point where personal innuendo is just wrong.

Of course. I have family in that very usher crew. I absolutely realize they aren't out there doing it just to be wet blankets (well, there are a couple that are but they're the extreme minority) and simply follow the orders of the supervisors (or the money people ultimately). I'd say i worded it poorly, should have said "the Admin" or whoever leaned on them.

And by no means am I wanting just insane, disgusting stuff being yelled like what's referenced above assaulting family members. There's always some frat bro that can't handle his Truly's getting nasty, and they need to be tossed ASAP. No one can or should defend that.

The kids I'm talking about that I miss are the ones with pages of notes and hilarious ways I've heard them bug guys. Referencing a girlfriends snapchat, their sisters instagram, bugging them about a error they had the day before, etc. Not saying they didn't work a little blue at times, but they had some thought to it and knew the game. That's what I miss.

It sucks that they got rid of the student section being near the infield

As a student, I'd rather raise hell over the outfield wall and be granted some extra "freedom" that sitting with grown ups often does not provide.

Many of the great student sections are in outfield and they make for great optics on TV
