If I understood hubbs correctly this morning jones only has 34 OVs to use.

Is that how many he has left to use or was that the total for the year??

How many of those 34 have been scheduled??

Do we have some commitments willing to pass on a OV in order to use theirs on another prospect??

They will start the first weekend in September and go until the weekend before national signing day. Per NCAA rules, every prospect is allowed five official visits and each football program is allowed to host 56 official visits in a calendar year, not that they ever reach that number anymore.

This is from an ESPN article (August 2010) College football recruiting: Unofficial visits now more important than official vists - ESPN

Good read, includes a lot about how the recruiting landscape changed with unofficial visits. A lot of UT flavor in the article too, with quotes from Cut and Greg Adkins talking about Ainge.

I'm pretty sure that's what we have left, subtracting those taken already and those lost by Kiffin era infractions.

That's certainly good news. If it was only 34 visits in all that would be extremely tight.

This is why losing unofficials next year for 2 games from the Kiffin penalties won't help recruiting but can be overcome with good planning by CBJ.

Ok we have 34 OVs left to use.

How many commitments have yet to take their OVs to us??

What kind of success rate do we need to have with the guys we are bringing in??

Just a rough guess but I am guessing we have around 20 visits to use for our remaining spots. That puts a lot of pressure on bringing the right guys in or at last not bringing a guy in with very little chance of getting a signature

Expalin to me how many of these recruits who are financially disadvatanaged are making unofficial visits all over the country..that means the recruit is paying for the trip..airfare (and if they are flying...transportation when they get there)..gas (which now can be more costly than the airfare) living accomadations, meals, etc...this sounds very suspicious that this is becoming more important than "official visits" maybe it's like tattoos that many players seem to be able to afford ...without a job and no means of income????

it would be smart to make the knoxville area kids come on UVs and save the OVs for other people

But if I was a recruit, I'd want to be wined and dined just like everyone else. You only get to go through that process once. Not everyone has to be a drama queen about it, but for most of these guys it's a once in a lifetime experience. Not to mention there are a lot of things you can expose an OV to that you can't do with an UV.

This is not true. The only difference is transportation, lodging, and food can't be paid for. Everything else can be done exactly the same. For a local kid all your asking them to do is pay for their own food and parents say at home instead of hotel. The kid can still stay will player host just the same

Hey man, i only linked the article, i didn't write it. However, if you had read the article, there was a part where Coach Cut talked about how important it was for Duke because kids will come together and visit UNC, NC St, Wake etc all in one shot. Its not like kids from Cali are coming by randomly to UT for unofficials, but kids from Georgia, Bama etc it isn't a stretch for them to take a weekend trip to visit UT.

Sorry, didn't mean you personally to explain...just in general. Duke recruits are "different"....been through the process, unofficial visits can be extremely expensive!

Its all good and I know exactly where you are coming from. But I would say that for recruits interested in local schools especially, the unofficials are really important, especially if you aren't a 5* recruit. Take as many unofficial trips as possible and save the officials for schools to expensive or inconvenient to travel too, that's what I did personally.
