Linginfelter Named SEC Pitcher of the Week

UT Sports Information

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee junior right-handed pitcher Zach Linginfelter was named Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Linginfelter (2-0) earned SEC Pitcher of the Week honors for the first time after he tossed six shutout innings allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out 13 batters in Saturday's win over Indiana. He was one strikeout away from tying his career-high and he helped the Vols tie the single-game program record with 21 total strikeouts in a 11-0 win against the Hoosiers.

Following his impressive performance against the Hoosiers, Linginfelter's 0.00 ERA is currently tied for first in the conference and the country, while his .111 opposing batting average ranks fifth in the league.

With Monday's recognition, Linginfelter becomes the first Tennessee pitcher to take home SEC Pitcher of the Week honors since Bret Marks did so on March 16, 2015.

The Vols wrap up a nine-game homestand with a pair of midweek games this week, hosting Liberty on Tuesday and Middle Tennessee on Wednesday. Both games will begin at 4:30 p.m. and can be seen live on SEC Network+ and the WatchESPN app.
