I think the biggest significance is the company of coaches CRB is with currently in a lifetime contract.
Also have to think about it from the point of view of a 18-year-old. Lifetime contract just sounds BA

Are those posters even around anymore? I don't think I've heard/seen anyone seriously express that sentiment since like 2017.

They unfortunately show themselves after every loss…even though we have way less than we used to have.

The Legions can never be happy.

I just like that I can look forward to watching Vol sports all the way from the fall through the spring…and having very competitive teams to watch.

I'm talking about the posters who are actual UT bball fans that sincerely expressed that he would coast to retirement. Post-loss drive-by posters are a different breed not worthy of discussion.

My sentiments exactly. I became a Vols fan as an eleven year old in 1955, so I've been around for awhile. I believe the sports teams that represent UT are more competitive across the board now than at any time in my lifetime. Some great coaches and teams to enjoy. GBO

I became a fan when I became a student in 1987. This is a Golden Era of Volunteer athletics.

It lets him focus on roster adjustments at that time of the year instead of inking a renegotiated deal. He can go into transfer season with the bulk of the contract work already in place and with a nice floor. Then after he’s done signing the best available transfers and opened up spots, he can go back and refine the contract after things have settled down. It also benefits UT by keeping schools away from our coach - although at 71 years old that is much less of a concern.

It simply removes uncertainty from the equation. It also makes it much more expensive for UT to fire Barnes, so a bad season can’t be leveraged as much by those teams we’re competing with for players.

This contract doesn't prevent Rick Barnes from retiring, and I'm sure everyone with any interest in college basketball knows he has flawless job security, so firing isn't an issue either.

I see that said super often so there must be something to it re: contracts, but it makes so little sense to me lol.

Among other things, it's essentially a statement by Barnes that he's not thinking about retirement soon. That can be used to address competitors' recruiting BS that Barnes could go any day.
