I think there is a measurable difference between "Life Champions" and comparing the Vol football team to the Nazi army.

I'm REALLY not sure there is any difference on the football field anymore though.

I think 2017 is a defining moment for the Butch Jones brand. Four years into the Jones project and my thinking is the only thing separating Jones from Stooley is a once-in-a-generation legacy class that raised talent level to Fulmer-esque heights. The in-state recruiting fiasco this year is an ominous portent of future recruiting success.

Butch must exceed all expectations this year. We have lost an incredible amount of production. There are still question marks about the Butchfence without a Josh Dobbs level dual-threat playmaker - especially in the Orange Zone. The BSiA was clearly unprepared and still doing on-the-job training with a championship calibre squad.

I'm willing to give Butch the benefit of the doubt and I hope beyond hope he succeeds in 2017. I really do. I don't expect a lot from 2017 - my over / under based on prior performance and loss of production is 6.5. Throwing away more wins, letting more Tennessee talent escape, doing less with more, either Butch really raises the roof and wins the SECE or we can honestly say that the upgrade was, basically, exactly what we paid for: LA Tech AD vs Cinci HC.

The only recruiting fiasco I have seen is a bunch of arm chair ADs ranting and raving over damn star ratings. If these idiots are such great football minds, why don't they make a living at it?

And references to Derek Dooley? Isn't that getting old by now? By now, he has put that time behind him. Why don't you? Let it go.

TN is back to competing once again. Has beat uga two years in a row and finally beat Florida again. This year's team can easily win 9 again and hopefully more. It gets old - all of the Negavols saying how bad Butch is. Last year was unfortunate but the injuries were too much to overcome. Hurd was a huge problem during games and team chemistry. Time to move on. Go Vols!

Except he lost to SC and Vandy which takes away any good feeling from FL and GA.

Blaming injuries on losing those two games is a sorry excuse.

What are the chances that we beat both UGA and UF again this year? Georgia is going to be a very very tough one to beat. And what are the chances we blow a game to a Vandy or South Carolina again? Honestly injuries shouldn't of been a excuse against them two, their rosters looked awful last year.

Regarding recruiting, were you excited about the 2014 and 2015 classes, ranked #7 and #4 repesectively? And if you were, why?

Was it because of the 4 and 5 star players/marquee players in those classes which directly led to the high rankings?.....or was it because of the lower rated players who you saw as diamonds in the rough?

In other words, did you look at the 2014 class and say "Yes, we got Ray Raulerson and Neiko Creamer!!!" Or were you stoked that Butch got some outstanding, highly rated players like Malone, Hurd, Kelly? Honest question.

I still feel great about beating Florida and uga. And injuries is an understatement, losing more than half of our defense isn't a sorry excuse, it's part of football and it has a direct effect on wins/losses.

So, he lost to SC and Vandy because of injuries? If anything, injuries showed how he's missed on recruiting, especially LB.

9 win seasons are the equivalent of mediocre with the extra games of today. Why are you excited about mediocre?

He's got 7 starters returning on both sides of the ball (saw it on SEC Network IIRC). That's a bunch. Granted we are replacing the QB, but it's not the end of the world.

You might want to re-read what I said. I blame it on injuries and a starting RB who quit the team during the middle of a game. You and your vol hater friends need to understand it is football and on any given Sat you can lose. Tell me what good does it do for the team, recruiting etc to continually bash the coach and team? This is still a top 10-15 team and hopefully they perform well this year. GO VOLS!

It's the red zone. it makes the program sound insecure to call it the orange zone. Something a middle school coach might do but not a program that has championship aspirations and a respectable history.
