The guy that hit us was arrested in the hospital with his 4th DUI, 4th no ins, 4th no lic. He only recieved 11mths 29 days in court and was released after 17 days to a half way home....a career drunk, but his parents had passed away recently and left him a mid-90's brick, 2 floors w/basement, 4br, 2 1/2bth,2 car garage and 6 acres of land. I now own that property.
He still owe's me $100,000, the 4wd he was in that night....He borrowed from a friend to make a beer run for the party at his new home.
Im not done with this loser yet........word is he signed over some property to his aunt 3 weeks after the accident he feared i would sue for it, but didnt believe id take his parents home from him. By Law it looks like a nice place for my daughters horses to graze.
Long story short....The family home and land sold at top dollar will not pay my medical bills in full..
Dude what if....Your underage. What if this had become your problem, worse..your parents burden..? You have to be a bigger man than that.

I am not saying that I endorse his conduct. What I meant to suggest is that he just not drink, especially considering he is under 21 anyway. Or if he can't quit drinking then just become a public trasnsportation groupie. Sorry if there was a misunderstanding on that.

and yes, nondischargability of judgements for damages casued while DUI is another strong motivation to aviod drinking. You may think it's not a big deal when you are in college and do not own anything but the people you owe can garnishe 25% of your wages for as long as it takes to pay the judgment (probably your whole life if you kill someone). Also, a lot of companies that pay pretty good salaries (banks, insurance companies, law firms, etc.) will not hire some one with bad credit and a garnishement will definitely give you a very bad credit rating.

Says who?

Not everyone is that stupid to do it again once you get a DUI

Thanks for totally ignoring the post immediately preceding yours. I think I explained what I meant pretty well and will not rehash it all again. However, in the little universe of people who I have known to get a DUI they are seldom curbed in thier behavior by one arrest.

Good to hear that man. Hopefully things will get right and you can move on.

VHillbilly is somewhat right. One arrest sometimes doesn't deter people. But there are others that have one run in with the law and are straight forever. So let's hope you are not the latter.

Sounds like you've learned your lesson, I hope so .Drinking and driving is dangerous and stupid , risking your own life is one thing , but every other person on the road with you is at risk. I lost my best friend to a drunk driver ...himself. He died at 16 and will never have a chance to wait in line at an over crowded ski lift again. Give up the keys, stay at home , call a cab , just stay off the road! ....Ok I'm thru preaching now.

well guys thanks for talking to me about it. I have not done anything stupid again and dont plan on it. but refering to an earlier post i belive some one said that i need to wise up and it would be my parents problem or something along those lines. you can belive me when i tell you that I have wised up and it was a very bad move on my part and if i could take it back........ eh i dont think i would. stuff happens for a reason and the incident made me into a better person. i have had alot of stuff straightend out in my life and just things couldnt be going better for me right now. i mean i could have a liscense but that will just have to wait. my lawyer said that when i turn 18 they may drop the dui charge off of my record. the judge kinda hinted that it was too early in my life to have such a stupid mark on my record to where i wouldnt be able to suceed in life. he also said something along the lines off instead of trying to make a point out of me he was going to try and give me a second chance at a sucessful life is what i am really greatful for. but really i would have never went backwards if there was cars on the road. i was the only car on the road. ask milo its like a old western town around where i live at 1 in the morning. i just totally forgot all about the little police station across the street is all...

I have dealt with juveniles before. Ungovernable children fall on thier parents shoulders. We have kicked entire families off base because a teenage kid gets in trouble.

Glad to hear you realize your mistake and are turning things around.

Yea, I know several people that have at least two dui's.They even wrecked their cars, had fines, locked up, probably will happen again.Higher fines, locked up longer. Pretty sad.............pretty stupid.

One of my fraternity brothers had 2 in one night. Got one at about 6pm and was bailed out and then got another one later that night. Total idiot. I think the problem is that unless you live in a pedestrian type city like NYC and you hang out in bars the temptation is too great. People just figure they can make it. Another excuse I hear a lot is from long time drinkers who will tell you that they are still sober even though legally drunk becasue they have a high tolerance. I think those are the people who wind up having a BAC of .30 or more.

You should be glad this mistake was made before you turned 18. As a juvenile, most one time traffic violations get wiped from your record when you become "an adult(18)". While I'm unsure about a DUI, it MAY get removed at that time. Stay straight Chong, we don't need to lose any of our West Coast VN crew!!!
