The law is the law. Period. They can be changed and often are. But until they are student athletes are subject to those laws. The NCAA along with the SEC and our AD sets the rules by which student athletes must follow. When a kid signs with his/her school they know the rules. You, I and everyone else on this site and around the country know that weed will get you booted. Football and Basketball students fall under a much stronger magnifying glass. Is it right? Prolly not but they also reap the benefits that come with that spotlight. And yes, I give to the VASF.

Can a head coach suspend a player? Can a head coach sit a player? Can a head coach tell a player they are not allowed to dress out? Can a head coach tell a player they are not allowed to travel with the team?

Very, very poor case. I don't want you on my side in court.

I am not particularly interested in a marijuana debate and I agree with you that the rule is no pot and that should mean no pot. Its not up to the athletes to decide which rules to follow and which to ignore. My point was simply that this wasn't a pure question of Meyer saying "You violated the rule, you are off" because once it happened it triggered a process within the university. University rule, university procedure.

The gun thing seems to invoke a little of both in my mind as they are so dangerous to others. I guess what I'm saying is that a player who violates a drug rule should answer first to the university whereas a player who violates the gun rule should answer to both the university and Meyer because to me its a much more serious problem.

I see your point. As I wrote while you were posting, I do see a qualitative difference between the two violations (pot versus firearms). I concede that some might not see it that way.

As to insulting my lawyering to make your point, well, I just hope you do not need my services and that'll take care of that.

Smoking pot is illegal. Owning a gun is not. Failing a drug test several times should get you kicked off of a team. Firing a gun in public to intimidate someone should get you kicked off as well.

I agree and that is what has happened in both cases at UF.

I hear you and I know the debate about the stars aligning is pretty much academic now in terms of the outcome of that game. But, when people post on here that they think that Meyer manipulated how the stars became aligned, then that's got to be attacked for the inteelectually bankrupt notion that it is.

oh, we all know Meyer did it......he knew about and covered it up because they were playing TN....and the next week when UF was playing inept tech, all the sudden he's off the team..........it's a conspiracy i tell ya!!!! those darn crooked Gator are at it again.
