Here are my recommendations for those coming to town:

Eating: (Casual)Ramseys Diner, Atomic Cafe, Cheapside Bar and Grill, Drakes, Pazzos Pizza

(Upscale) Murrays or Merrick Inn...avoid Malones...it is a yuppy trap.

Drinking: Bluegrass Tavern, Redmons (both are right downtown) or Lynaghs Pub.

Overnight: Avoid the Ramada at the north end of town. Stay at the Embassy, Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton Suites at Lexington Green, or the Hampton or Fairfield off of Lake Crest Circle. Avoid the Hamburg area if you can. This is the "Turkey Creek" of Lex, and the traffic is deplorable.

Post your questions in this thread, and I will answer them if I'm able.

DO you foresee any trouble getting tickets at the game? Where do the scalpers congregate?

I've never had any trouble. Last time I bought from a scalper it was in a parking area 500 yards from the stadium. Tickets should be all over. My guess is that they will cost you $40- $60 a pop this year. Be careful. Scalping is illegal in Lex.

Staying at Hilton downtown - good place to watch football on Friday afternoon/evening?

Lex doesn't have a place as good as the Brewery in Knoxville. I suggest Buffalo Wild Wings (off of Harrodsburg Rd), because they will have every game going. It is about 3 miles from downtown.

Hey Lex. I was thinking about coming down w/o tix. In your expert opinion, what should I expect to pay for a seat to this one? Are the UK fans gonna overvalue the price, or should I still be able to get in for under $40 per?

Thanks ~ you figure Redmons or B'grass Tavern downtown will have a TV or two to watch the Iron Bowl and have a beer?

Only benefit of having friends who go to UK.

Lexington is a pretty nice campus.

Not trying to be a jerk. But it's actually off of South Broadway (the name changes from Harrodsburg to South Broadway the closer you get to downtown). I just didn't want someone to be looking for it and miss it because the street name is different.

If you like chain pizza, there is a Mellow Mushroom downtown. Just up the street though is a pizza place called Joe Bolognas. The pizza isn't my favorite, but the breadsticks are amazing (and about a footlong each) (that's what she said).

Lexvol...I'll disagree with you on Malones. It has some of the best Prime Rib I've had. A little yuppie maybe, but I think the food is worth it.

Lexvol named most of the best places in Lexington. Everything else is basically your chain restaurants (Outback, etc.) There's a campus favorite called Tolly Ho (greasy college diner food) but expect to wait.

Joe Balognas is good. Pazzos has better scenery. These guys have a MM in Knox, so I was trying to offer a little variety. Tolly Ho is good. They just opened a Five Guys off of Nicholasville Road. If you haven't had it, it is worth the trip.

Just have to agree to disagree on Malones, but Drakes has the best pub food I've ever had.

I am not going to be getting to Lexington until around 5 on Sat. Will I be able to find a parking spot? If so where? I have never been to commonwealth before. Haven't booked a hotel room yet not sure of where to stay. Should I stay downtown and get a cab? Or try to park at the stadium?
Thanks!

Five Guys is great, but you'll definitely have a long wait. If you've got the time, it's worth it though. I agree with you on Drakes...for pub food it can't be touched. The Pub at Fayette Mall is pretty good as well. If you like Chicken and Waffles, try Saul Good (also at Fayette Mall).

If you can stay downtown, I would. it's a short cab ride to the stadium. If you go south of the stadium there are some side streets that have parking. I wouldn't try the stadium for parking. Unless you have a pass, it's impossible.

I think UK's website advises taking exit 104 off of I-75 if coming from Knoxville.

Is this the best way in or is there a better way or does it matter?
