All of the posts her about JC the offense and CPF and how they stink need to be replaced or benched ext. but very few on the awfull defense being played. The cheif hasn't shown didly the last several years, against Auburn the best defense we had was their offense. Missed takles, blown assignments and that dang Mustang package.

Take a close look at the defense next game and you will see bad fundementals a missed tackle or two every play and the secondary playing 10 or more yards off the ball.

No question CPF needs to go but lets lay spread the love here.

D is the only thing playing well this year. They didn't give up 17 points vs UF. Offense put them in that situation. Also 7 points vs UAB. D IMO is doing well.

I agree. Auburn did kill themselves. The defense played horribly against UCLA in the second half and against UAB in the first half. Chavis's mustang philosophy is dumb. He needs to go with Phil. In retirement they can visit the buffet together and reminise on the good years.

But our defense is fairly good this year though. If we had a half way decent offense we would be in good shape. I still don't think Chavis is a very good coordinator though.

there is no way we will see a missed tackle or two every play...do you have any idea what that looks like. that would mean an average of 10-15 yds a play for the offense. maybe a few missed tackles a series, but a play. chavis is doing really well this year and the players are responding. now as the game goes on and the d hs no rest from being on the field for the whole game, (ala jo cromp) then i can expect that...but every play? sheez. maybe you were thinking about auburn's defense trying to tackle g. jones.

the defense hasn't played bad at all this year aside from the 2nd half of the UCLA game.

IMO, Chavis has done his job well this year. This is the kind of defense needed to win an SEC championship.

Chavis is the ONE good thing about UT football. He does a very good job. The "mustang" is an issue, but the D is not the problem. If not for Chavis, UT would have had many bad years instead of 2/3 in the past 10.

Chavis is fine. Not the issue. It's the Piss Poor direction (HC)!

The defense made NO adjustments in the UCLA game and that was a major factor in the loss. Against Florida,
special teams and turnovers did us in. Against AU and UAB the defense was, for the most part solid, so I can't agree that the defense is not playing well.

The UCLA game 2nd half collapse was bad. The other 3 games they have played well for the most part.

Yes Auburn, a offensive juggernaut, the same team that put up 3 points against MSU, who in turn gave up 38 points to Georgia Tech and a thousand yards on the ground. Auburn a team who has been booed as much as UT. And Florida went 8-13 in third down conversions, when a DC makes his bones. Also, UCLA-114th, Auburn-90th, Florida-71st, and our one victory over UAB-59th, the NCAA offensive rankings of the offensive powers Chavis has gone against.

UCLA 2nd half...crappy
the rest of the games, UT D has played fine. UAB (decent o) UF (short fields due to turnovers and unspecial teams) and AU (7 pts by the D) Not bad.

An average offence, UT is 3-1 and not in that bad of shape.

I know it was 10 yrs ago...but without the Chavis D, Ut DOES NOT WIN THE NC in 1998. The offence was average at best. Chavis and Al Wilson won that ring!

I watched the Fulmer show on Tivo the other night, and I was really surprised at how well the defense did play. There were people flying to the ball on every play, every catch was contested, and gang tackling was prevalent from start to finish. The D-line is getting penetration, and the linebackers and DBs are running to the play and making tackles. Auburn is not a great offensive football team, but I don't know how much more you can ask.

the defense hasn't played bad at all this year aside from the last 2 series of regulation inthe UCLA game.

Yes, I especially enjoyed how the Chavis D corralled McNabb and how they locked down the Arkansas recievers, gave up 400 yds passing to Fla, and so on. The 98 team, like most if not all championship teams, got some breaks, and made the most of it. Also, look at how many of those players ended up in the NFL.
