Dear friends,

This afternoon, Coach Fulmer announced he will step aside at the conclusion of the football season. I want to express my sincere gratitude for everything he has done for the University and our program.

Coach Fulmer has been, and will continue to be, a great representative of the University and the athletic department. He has dedicated a majority of his life to our program and brought home two SEC championships and a national championship. He has secured his place as the second winningest coach in Tennessee history behind General Neyland. I personally appreciate everything he has done for Tennessee and look forward to him continuing to be a part of our family.

I hope that you will come and show your appreciation for Coach Fulmer at the Wyoming and Vanderbilt games as well as the Kentucky game on Nov. 29 when we celebrate "Phillip Fulmer Day" in Neyland Stadium.

We will begin a national coaching search immediately. We have a great University, world-class student-athletes, a tremendous fans base and first-class facilities. As a result, we will attract some of the nation's best candidates. We will introduce a new coach to you over the next several weeks.

Thank you for your continued support of Tennessee football.

Sincerely,

Mike Hamilton

Does he think we are all stupid? Coach Fulmer made it obvious this was not his decision.

"Step aside"? I'm not a body language expert, but that presser looked like that of a coach who had been forced out. Coach thanked Doug Dickey in addition to those who supported him through the years, but acted like Hamilton wasn't even in the same room.

Probably safe to say the last few days behind closed doors have been ugly in Knoxville.

Yea, you could tell it wasn't by choice. I imagine Hamilton said you resign or I'm gonna fire you

I love Fulmer for what he has done, but I dont know about you guys; if I got fired and told that I was gonna get $6million, I would sleep okay at night!

I'm glad for a change, but Fulmer would have traded that 6 mil for a successful season if he could.

I am sick of hearing former players fuss and moan about if given time he could turn it around. He was given plenty of time to turn it around. I understand he didn't want to go out this way, but man he acted like Hamilton wasen't even sitting there. Seems like PRIDE was a problem for him today.

Pride. I think Fulmer believed that he WAS Tennessee Football and couldn't/wouldn't be removed. He, for so long, had the money people backing him, but with the rapid decline of the program, he lost that support. With the loss of the money, he lost the support of the AD.

Are universities aloud to talk to other schools as soon as the season is over, and before bowl games, or does it have to be after the bowl game? I am almost positive it will be before the bowl game EX Rich Rod

From what I am seeing now, I'm not liking the way Fulmer is handling this. Don't get me wrong, I feel for the guy, but I still see him with an agenda and it's not what is best for this program or the university. He made it clear in his press conference that this was not his decision. We all knew that, but in holding on to that and making that view known to his players and former players, he is creating a divide instead of promoting healing and a comming together. I think we are getting ready to see some ugly stuff comming out of this at least in the near term. This could get even messier than the Johnny Majors split due to the numbers of people that a willing to speak and the platforms they have. If that's the way it turns out, it will be on Fulmer.

Amen. hopefully he can take some time and cool down. Its not like he's taking $6 mil when he leaves.

kind of sounds like they already have their guy.

It does sound like that. I wonder what over the next several weeks means. Sounds real quick and if it was a coach that was currently in a HC position he would not have that line in there.

Somebody will hire a Van and send it to his house. He is hurt and that is it. All the support he had folded their hands.

Was MH the front-man or was he following orders from above or without? CPF was obviously distressed at even being near him. We're going to learn a WHOLE LOT the next few days.

Don't think the relationship between them would permit any chance for CPF to stay. Remember, Jimmy Sexton is his agent and there are some job openings... It appears that he is not ready to quit coaching so an offer would work wonders for the ego. Best wishes to him and his family.

According to Chris Low on the George Plaster show just a few minutes ago, the behind the scenes action leading up to this was very ugly. He didnt' go into specifics but he did say something to the effect that the meetings got very heated.

I would believe that based on what I've seen so far this evening.

Yea I think they already have someone... There are a lot of people that think they did the same thing with Bruce Pearl.. He was already the coach before the previous coach was let go.. The rumors should be good over the next couple of days... That may be Phil was so mad...They may have already told him who the new coach is and it miffed him off
