The whole 85 squad. Especially Victor Peppers(see 86 Sugar Bowl had to cover Mike Irvin all night),Darryl Dickey,William(I think)Powell,Mark Hovanic and one of my favorite Vols Dale Jones.

Charlie Garner :dance2:

relatively unknown juco, took the starting spot, and went on to a long NFL career for a running back.

Sorry, OP, but if you keep it to the last 10-12 years, it's hard to come up with 5 players who even achieved, let alone over-achieved. :p

I'd rather think of players that over achieved in the true spirit of our Volunteers with it being game week.

Keep it to the last 10-12 years or so.

1. Al Wilson (don't recall if he was highly touted)
2. Rick Clausen
3. Joey Kent
4. Travis Stephens (He was amazing during the 2001 season)
5. Scott Wells (again, don't recall if he was highly recruited)

Al Wilson was a Parade All-American and a can't miss Safety prospect out of high school.

Ryan Karl
Tony Thompson

1st two that come to me!

Karl was a 2*rb out of BGA, back when they were in the small school division. He had a nice career at UT.

Peerless Price and Billy Ratliff were both as lightly recruited as you could get. Price was basically a throw-in with Andy McCullough, and Ratliff's only other college offer was a juco in Mississippi.

Witten was recruited as a defensive end, and not a particularly good one (something like #150-200 in the country).
