Let's tap the brakes a little

Florida tends to jump on the Vols quickly.. If the game is still close going into the 4th quarter, I give it to the Vols. I just hope they can withstand the Gators initial push in that first quarter.....

I don't care if we win by 1 or 100...I just want a win. I'm so tired of losing to the gators. That being said, I do agree that our fans have really gotten a little too overconfident. I want to win, but if we don't, it's not the end of the world. Dooley still has us on the right track.

Overconfident is good because it's different. We've had no confidence the past few years, and we see where that got us. It's a welcome change, IMO.

Kill Florida.

Even after reading some of the ridiculous threads about us "killing the Gators" and people going way overboard..

I have to agree with you.

Florida's tendencies are different now that they have a completely new coaching staff.

Man, I have been reading some post on here that are just getting gradually worse. We went from I think we have a chance after Cincy to saying we definitely and should beat Florida.
Yeah. People are getting a little ahead of themselves. That's a good point.
Remember, we have a 6 game losing streak to them, and they are still alot more talented than we are.
I am not sure that's true. Talent wise... UT is either better or equal imo at QB, RB, WR, OL, DL, and DB. UF has an advantage at LB. Both teams are thin in places. Both teams are very young.

I guess we can itemize the list if you want...
You know how Kentucky fans have been saying the past couple of years that this was the year to beat Tennessee and we just kind of laugh it off? We sound like the Kentucky fans now. I THINK we can win. I HOPE we can win. I know Bray, Rogers, and Hunter can cause some huge matchup problems for them, but let's slow down a bit before predicting a beat down in the swamp. Keep it in perspective. GO VOLS!!!!

UT isn't UK. While UF has been on a run and the history of the past 20 years has favored them significantly (5-15), the series is nowhere close to as lopsided as the UT/UK series. UK is not relevant in football and has not been in the modern era.

I do agree with your basic sentiment. it isn't competitive again until UT actually makes it that way.

The one thing I noticed DD intentionally doing this week makes me feel better. He's treating it like any other game. He is making an effort to not let UF in his head or the heads of his players like they were in Fulmer's. If the talent is close enough... and it is... then the most critical factor becomes confidence. Fulmer was always intimidated by UF. His attitude transferred to the players. They played tight and often choked because of it.

UT may get beat... but I don't think Dooley and his guys are approaching UF the way it has been in the past.

FYP.

Bray is good, but all the Bray>Manning talk is getting a little out of hand.

I agree. He has great potential, but some of these people are absurd. Vol calls on the way home from Knoxville after the game will have you rolling. The guy that called in saying that Bray was better, but didnt even know Peyton's freshman record was priceless. I think this is the best shot we have had in awhile of beating the gators, but I dont expect a blowout either way. It should be a classic TN UF game. Hopefully we will be the ones that are happy at the end.

I don't think anyone (myself included) expects to win the National Championship this year. It would be nice to beat Florida, though

Tap the brakes? I don't think so. Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe. Tap the brakes? I say hit the gas and don't let up .

I go into every game convinced our guys can get it done... that is not going to change because its Florida..

They have no magic wand that prevents us from winning.. its simply they have had some good teams while we were going through hell with coaches and attrition, that's why they have streak going on right now.. its not because they have our number or can get guys we can't(like kentucky's problem)

Its been a long time coming for UT fans to get excited about the team. I don't blame anyone for being overly excited after all the turmoil, changes and bad seasons. I don't blame Kentucky fans either for believing they will beat UT, they're fans of their team, I expect them to feel that way.

It feels good because it is the start of something good, like arriving on your vacation, yeah the fun hasn't fully started yet but it feels good because it's all in front of us and is about to. It's nice knowing that our coach is capable of turning this team around instead of being a flop as we were unsure of when Hamilton hired him.

I don't care what Florida fans or anyone else thinks, it's time to get excited. Go Vols!

Nothing wrong with being cautiously optimistic. Bray and company have given us something we havent had in a while, HOPE!! Screw pumping the brakes, I say put the gas pedal through the floor. To the OP, dont be afraid of being let down, we know its a possibilty, we know it could hurt real bad, but we also know there is a chance, a real chance, that we get to be on a high even Snoop dog has never seen.

I understand the logic behind the original poster’s position but the General did leave this little nugget for our consideration: “If at first the game - or the breaks - go against you, don't let up... put on more steam
