Let's remember how bad Jones really was

I was born in Philadelphia. I cheer for all of their teams.

I had a friend who was a fan of the New York Knicks who would give me hell about the 76ers "Trust the Process" and tanking.

I used to tell him that we were trying to suck, what's your excuse?

I know this is has been a rough year so far, but I think we are forgetting how bad Jones left this place.

The bad Butch Jones trait that Jeremy Pruitt had to erase from players

"Pruitt made a comment on Monday, during a virtual media session with reporters, that indirectly illustrated how bad things were under Jones. The comment also showed fans how much work Pruitt had to do once he arrived at Tennessee.

“Everywhere I’ve coached, I’m used to players being in the office constantly,” said Pruitt on Monday. “The first year we had to drag them up here. Now we have kids up here all the time studying and trying to be the best player they can possibly be.” "

I think I'll take a deep breath for this season and hope that next season, with a full summer and fall practice, with the culture changed, JG gone (hopefully), and most if not all players recruited by Pruitt, we'll be where we thought we'd be this year. Competitive.
He is doing worse than Jones. Anyone with a pea for a brain can see that.

He is worse than Jones, no excuse to be getting blown out at home by UK in year 3, just stop. Pruitt IS NOT a good coach, he’s the worst of the last four and his record is confirming that! Unfortunately, this post will age well!!!

JP has to get away from JG. JP will be judged harshly as long as JG starts. Last year he benched JG and then would be forced to come back to him. This year he keeps sending JG out there as long as he keeps doing that and losing he can’t be thought of as a good coach. Even if we win with JG, the decision will be suspect due to future expectations.

Pruitts best season came with Jones's players and he's yet to show he can develop anyone. There are several members of this staff that shouldn't be here ( Friend, Weinke, Martin, Nedimyer, Felton and probably Ansley if we're honest ) however it's too late for Pruitt to try to rebuild on that end because no one is coming here to work.

You could take this article and use Pruitt, Dooley, or Butch as the coach.

Dooley had to change the culture from Kiffin. Fans could see progress with the Octogon, climbing Mt. LeConte, and training at Milligan College (Junction Boys Stuff!).

Then Butch had to change the culture from Dooley. Volympics, Brick by Brick, Juice Bar, The # 1 recruiting class in June 2013.

Now it's Pruitt's turn to change the culture from Butch....and here we are 10 years later.

Ugh.

this argument of giving grace to the current coach because of the last coach left him to work with doesn't work.

We did it with Jones - and yet Jones at least managed to get us to those lower tier bowl games where we thrashed Big 10 schools. That - we thought - was our low point.

We are now doing it with Pruitt. Enough.

Good coaches get the most out of the talent that is there. Great coaches get players to play above their individual talents and come together as a team. It appears Pruitt is neither.

It's a reasonable expectation that Pruitt win. now. no excuses. And yet he's not. And it's not because of what was left to him by the previous coach.

Yeah, I'm going to chalk that up to Dobbs.

Fixed your post.

Dobbs was critical to the success of the Volunteers during his tenure. The 2017 season, the first under Butch Jones without Dobbs set an all-time record for futility in the football program, 0-8 in the SEC.
