Let's not anoint Bray just yet...

Just my thoughts on the game today.

I hated the draft, but liked the idea.

Jackson was a beast all day and a big reason for the white teams success.

Orange teams o scheme was horrible. Its hard to get anything going when no one is worried about the run game.

I dont like that Bray had a BAD game, but liked that it opend the door for competition. I want to see Tyler do well but im not married to him I just wont to get to the promiseland and THINK he is the best route at the moment.

They all need to improve but its funny to see everyone freaking over a spring game. I loved the flag game at the half. Maybe the hb pass brought back some memories for #42 wearing a purple #5 jersey like it did for me. All in all great day minus the gale force winds

If Bray had gone 23 - 30 for 350 yrds you would have declared Bray the next coming of Manning. Call it like it was. He played bad thus there should be question marks. You f-n guys that think you always have to blow rainbows up everyone's butts kill me.

You need to start using Tee Martin's name instead of Manning's name. Tee won a National Championship as a Vol. Manning did not.

I think Bray will be fine, but how on earth does one go 5-30?

It was windy and cold and the receivers had quite a few drops. He had a tendency to throw in double and triple coverage which didnt help, and the secondary played pretty well. But primarily he was really inaccurate, the worst I can remember.

Still waiting on the Bray haters and simms lovers to explain why Bray dominated the first team defense last week while simms looked like ****. Is that not a better barometer than a split team spring game?

Bray looked like garbage... yeah it was windy and a little damp, plus there were a couple drops. But there could easily be weather like this in the late Fall.

He needs ALOT more work. I do think this opened up at least somewhat of a QB controversy. Bray isn't head and shoulders above anyone else on roster at this point in time. Still hasn't proven much against quality defenses. He's really bad under center right now. I hope he can get over that quick. There's no reason for him to play like he played today. I don't care who he had and didn't have on his team. He threw some really, really ugly throws out there.

It is shocking to see how quickly people are to throw a kid under the bus. Simms struggled against Utm and uab for goodness sake, Bray is our best option, period. Where were the negavols last week when Bray lit it up?

Right. It would have been a bit more heartening if Tyler had let the game come to him instead of trying to force things.

Some people obviously don't know how to critique a spring game. I didn't get to watch the game because I had my spring game today but I know there is mismatches all over the field, bad weather, and some guys playing that probably won't ever see the field during a real game. Bray is going to be a very good QB for us so don't throw him under the bus for a bad scrimmage.

I think the best player will be on the field under this coaching staff so im not to worried about who starts... These guys get paid alot of money to coach these guys up, evaluate, and decide who starts on Saturdays... IMO some people seem to have more loyalty in a particular player than to the TEAM itself... I understand that THEY THINK that their player of choice should start because of there own evaluations... But who's job is on the line to put the best guy out there? I think that Bray will be the man but I wont go in to work and get fired that Monday if we lose to Montana that first weekend (not saying cdd will)...

There was a comment in the interview that made me believe Chaney was coaching Bray's team in all aspect. CDD said Bray kept slinging it when they should have been running it and hinted he would have focused more on the run. Is this true? Did Chaney coach the Orange team?

The way I read it Chaney coached the white team and CDD told him to mix it up because they were running it down orange's throat...

Quote from the other thread: If you noticed, (White head coach Jim) Chaney only ran it in one direction. That's what I noticed. He would've run the Power 62 times. I got mad at him in the first quarter. He ran his fifth Power in a row and I just said, ‘Can we throw it a little bit?' So the only reason they were throwing it was because I made them.”

Does the White winning say more about our starting line and less about Bray in anyones opinion?

Simms seems to be alot like the last QB. Great in practice but not in a real game.

IMO they ran the ball less because they wanted to get the QB's more work on the passing game. Most teams do this in scrimmages. I just dont understand why Dooley wouldnt say that.

Simms looked just like he did in a game. Solid but nothing special. He just wasnt hurried the way he was in games last year. The white losing says more about Bray. He struggled placing the ball. I've never seen him that inaccurate, but the coverage was solid, the receivers struggled catching the ball at times too. But's only one scrimmage, everyone has a bad scrimmage occasionally.

I dont care how soft the opponents where,he made some right on the money finger tip just where it needs to be passes that showed some real talent. Its not like hes a senior. He has a arm people, give him some more playing time,,GEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

If he had went 29-30 he would be a heisman lock but since he went 5-30 it's just a spring game.

Get over it, Simms isn't the starter, Simms will never be the starter. It's time you accepted that and moved on.

Hunter being afraid to catch the ball over the middle

He dropped at least 5 or 6 perfectly thrown Bray passes. He was a huge disappointment.

Does anyone think that CDD would bench Bray if he was 2 for 15 at halftime and the game was still in reach? The lousy passing does give me some concern but I really don't think he will play any game that poorly this upcoming season. It will be different this season for Bray, he will be expected to play like last season. He will be expected to put us in a position to win SEC games. For some athletes that can't handle the pressure and start second guessing what they were doing earlier and end up failing to live up to expectations. Its all about pressure to perform when everyone is expecting even better performances than last season. I'm not ready to give up on Bray just because of a lousy spring game. But I do hope that Bray is not feeling the pressure of expectations and that is affecting his game.

Good post. If anyone believes that CDD isn't doing his utmost to make this team win than they are crazy. This is his real shot if he loses here ,(don't think that will happen), than he will get fired and never get a chance to be a head coach at a major school. That translates into no more 2.2 million dollar a year contracts. Another poster pointed out Bray had a decent scrimmage last week so lets not abandon ship quite yet.
