Let's just be honest for a minute...

I've read bathroom stalls that made more sense than that.

I agree completely - great coaching and poor coaching have absolutely nothing to do with political correctness and any other tripe the op was pushing. i will admit however that some have been very quick to fire on anyone who criticizes this staff.

Our coaching deficiencies become more glaring when we are matched up with an extremely well coached team like we played tonight.

I disagree. When you consider the hands he's been dealt so far and what he's done with them, there's just no way. People here are far too unrealistic as far as expectations, it's just how this fanbase is. Guarantee after we get fisted game after game this upcoming football season in which we struggle to 6 wins(which is realistic), people will be calling for Jones' head.

We're in no position to be firing coaches and Martin's doing everything right as far as Cheek is concerned.

I agree if he can't win/get us to the tournament next year then he's not our guy. Regardless, I don't see him gone after next season either.

The bolded line is why the seat is hot.

The fans and donors who pay the bills and make the program possible are the deserving ones, not Cuonzo. It is the fans and donors who DESERVE a program that's not settling for mediocrity. Cuonzo is merely an employee who is underperforming.

Next year's team, on paper, and without an NCAA cloud hanging over them, looks like our best team since the Elite Eight. And, it will just be his third year. Letting him coach next season does not mean the program is settling for mediocrity.

Why didn't Dooley get to coach the players he brought in? because he was a loser and so far so is Martin, we win if we can hit our 3 point shots that is all.

Dooley did get to coach the players he brought in.
Last year was his best chance. He failed.
Next year is Martin's best chance. We'll see.

No true point guard coupled with lean slashers to the basket compliment players and Stokes on an island = N.I.T. first round loss to Mercer. Now thats X's and O's!!!

We never run a play or a decent set out of a timeout - Never a backdoor - All one on one tough shots instead of any easy baskets - Our shot qulity is the worst in the country - Anyone off the street could teach better offense than we currently display....

Guys, stop with the over dramatic nonsense. No amount of ridiculous message board rants is going to get Zo fired before next season is finished. It is as simple as this: Martin will be back next year with the tools to be a decently seeded NCAA tourney team. Let's judge him at this time next year. Ftr, I think we are going to break faces next year, and all you idiots clamoring about Martin being the worst coach in history can stfu.

Martin has proven absolutely nothing since he has been here. We will know which direction we are headed about half way thru next season. I have no idea how it will turn out, but if we have some players leave for the NBA, (which I doubt)... he is screwed. I still have a wait and see attitude, but he has to give us something to be proud of next year.

Everyone just calm down. It was a meaningless game after a crushing disappointment to the kids. Just an off nite. Our best player is out too.
Fear not, it wasn't like our head coach was over at the football pro-day event rubbing elbows instead of being focused and prepared for a post season game tonight. Oh wait ...

A meaningless game ? What kind of crap is that ? If a D-1 scholarship player does not have the heart to compete every game no matter what, then they should be kicked off the team. There's not enough games in a season for a player to get bored playing basketball. He wasn't missing his best player because McCray was out there. Maymon is not and I repeat is not the key to this team. He works hard no doubt, but his lack of height and jumping ability makes him vulnerable to teams with taller big men underneath. The problem is Cuonzo does not have a clue on how to motivate this team and like the post started out lacks the ability to coach a team to success. We are eeing Buzz Peterson all over again.

Looking over his post history, he doesn't seem to be very high functioning. Just for the record, this one is my favorite:

Fulmer is a genuine Tennessean... He loves the state of TN not just the vols...I hope he takes ETSU and after a few years busts UT ass:whistling:

Just to post a note here on Cuonzo, It's bad enough to lose in the first or second round of the NIT when you thought you were NCAA bound, but Counzo has lost at HOME in the NIT two years straight now. We can't even say we lost a tough game on the road. Counzo is awful as a head coach but I am sure he would be a good assistant some where.

I'm sorry but it's the NIT. I don't see how anyone can get that hurt over dropping a NIT game. It's like the nerdy kid that gets made fun of in school. The season ended in Nashville. Time to look forward to next year.

Cuonzo believed last night was a meaningless game. He played Edwards and Lopez. I knew he was not taking the game serious after that. I feel sorry for the small amount of fans who were suckered into buying a ticket. Mcrae's game last night sums it up for me.

The gay Bear at halftime moved better than UT's offense. I'm sure they don't mind buying a 10 dollar ticket.

If you go into any tourney as a 2-seed, you should be able to somehow eke out a victory over the 7-seed, especially on your own damn court!

Gah Tennessee has the worst basketball fans. We aren't a basketball powerhouse, this isn't north Carolina, we won 20 gms and by a lot of people's opinions got snubbed in the draft. We will be a fixture in the top 25 next year and then all the people complaining can shut up

This is all coming from a bunch of people that couldn't care less about watching the sport of basketball. They only tune in (to possibly 1/3 of the games, at that) because the team has "Tennessee" on their jerseys and there's no football on TV. They don't understand the game of basketball beyond their optimist club playing days, and therefore the extent of their analysis is comparing the program to football and trying to draw parallels between this coaching staff and Dooley. That's the best argument they can muster. If Bruce Pearl had never been the coach here, they wouldn't care what Cuonzo had been doing during his time here. They jumped on the bandwagon after they saw what a successful TN bball team looks like, and now they're jumping off because we're suddenly 'just like Dooley's 5-7 football teams'. Irrational and ignorant.
