Unfortunately, many will to jump to conclusions before all of the evidence is presented.

Hindsight is always 20/20.

I continue to read from our fans (and foreigners) about how this reflects upon our coach, our team, our university, the human race, the pope, God, the president, etc, etc, etc.

Let's just leave it at the fact that right now, three young men are about to be forced to live down the consequences of a very stupid decision that they made at 18 years old. Forget the impact on our football team and its recruiting - this happens at all big time programs. Forget that you / we might get razzed by opposing fans. Who cares? This isn't about football or competitors. This is about 3 humans who have disappointed a lot of people, including themselves, and are going to have a tough uphill battle just to get back to being productive Americans.

I know we all take our beloved team a bit personally, but we can set that aside for now, let the law and the university get a handle on the situation and repercussions, and just hope that these kids find a way to overcome a huge mistake. Most of us have made them and lived to tell the tale. We didn't have a brutal public piling upon us and weighing in on our gaffes, otherwise many here would still be paying for youthful stupidity.

Get over it and root for these kids in life, not as Vols.

This is one of the best threads/posts ever to be seen on VN.

Everybody who is overreacting to this situation should listen to BPV. This is coming from a man with an Army background who understands that kids this age make mistakes.

How dare you rain on our parade with this reasonable talk. Talking nonsense, spreading rumors, overreacting, talking smack, general stupidity, and stating opinions like it is fact is our god given right on VN.

You just don't like to have fun.

I agree, this an excellent post. I could not have said the facts any better. I remember several close calls in when I was a teenager hanging around the wrong people. One time I ran upon an old high school friend that I had not seen in around a year. We went around for a drive drinking some beer and within 30 minutes we were getting shot at. He apparently had some beef with some guys and I was unknowingly brought into the situation. We luckily got away. I have not seen him since that day. Teenagers sometime have a hard time staying with the good crowd.

What hit me the hardest when I heard this sad news being gleefully and self righteously reported on Atlanta sports radio was how at least two maybe three of these kids with a hole world of potential ahead of them just blew it all up in a series of horrible decisions.

I can't even begin to understand how this can happen as I grew up in a world totally removed from what these kids have lived in.

Excellent post BPV. We ALL have made mistakes and not had to deal with the public scrutiny. All these KIDS are under a microscope and on their own for the first time in their lives so its definitely a sad situation and has absolutely ZERO to do with football, recruiting, etc. I also hope that these kids can overcome this and come out a better person in the end.

Yeah that is pretty funny. with this logic i guess we can hang their stupidity, irresponsibility, not caring about how their decisions affect other people and bad grammar on

President Bush- the Best example of all those things.

Yeah, I hate bad grammar, too.

And poor punctuation.

And bad sentence structure.

And nonsensical points of views.

And people who can't take a good-natured joke.

And the irony of your post, accusing someone else of butchering the English language.

Good job by you, biggie. Although I don't think these kids should wear orange again if the allegations are true...I hope they get their heads on straight and become successful in life.

As I recall, didn't our coach boast about telling one of these recruits to be dishonest about the status of his commitment. Seems like an odd way to provide leadership to an 18 year old kid.

to behavior such as these three players chose to involve themselves. It is a SERIOUS matter and could have resulted in injury or death to some of those involved....suppose the victims had guns and defended themselves? There are repercussions everywhere because of this momentary lack of judgement...there are players on this team who have worked hard and never been involved in any trouble, some are trying to end their college careers on a positive note and due to the actions of some new recruits who have not even been here thru one season, the entire team and coaching staff are receiving tremendous adverse publicity and scrutiny....this is a BIG story and the detractors of our program are salivating at the thought of all the articles and comments they can make against the University. I hope these players get their lives in order, but in MY opinion, we have no use for this kind of trouble...they relinquished their opportunity of building a great career at TN and we need to focus on those players who want to develop and work hard to have successful futures. Our message to all recruits and players should be that we will NOT tolerate this kind of behavior!! I hope the team can focus on the next game but it is extremely unfortunate that some of their fellow players have put a cloud over this season. Hopefully, they can rise above it and receive the support they deserve!! GO VOLS!!!!
