I continue to read from our fans (and foreigners) about how this reflects upon our coach, our team, our university, the human race, the pope, God, the president, etc, etc, etc.

Let's just leave it at the fact that right now, three young men are about to be forced to live down the consequences of a very stupid decision that they made at 18 years old. Forget the impact on our football team and its recruiting - this happens at all big time programs. Forget that you / we might get razzed by opposing fans. Who cares? This isn't about football or competitors. This is about 3 humans who have disappointed a lot of people, including themselves, and are going to have a tough uphill battle just to get back to being productive Americans.

I know we all take our beloved team a bit personally, but we can set that aside for now, let the law and the university get a handle on the situation and repercussions, and just hope that these kids find a way to overcome a huge mistake. Most of us have made them and lived to tell the tale. We didn't have a brutal public piling upon us and weighing in on our gaffes, otherwise many here would still be paying for youthful stupidity.

Get over it and root for these kids in life, not as Vols.

People always forget about a little thing called personal responsibility. This is not Kiffin's fault as much as it mine or yours. These guys chose to do what they did. I lived in the Fort for 4 years right behind this gas station. I could've easily done what they did on any number of nights. I chose not to because I'm not crazy. These guys will have to deal with the consequences of their actions just like you or I.

Absolutely, this kind of stuff happens all the time. 18 year olds just do stuff like this. Look at the facts. They did not rob the gas station. They got no money. They didn't hurt anybody. Actually, they didn't even have a real gun. Look at the so called victims. They did not have one dollar in their bill-folds between all of them. Sounds very suspicious to me, actually. Could it have just been a two-way prank amongst kids with some over-reactive cops? Was it stupid? yes. A world shattering event, NO.

Short of giving kids MMPIs or personality tests on admission, I don't know how to stop this. It is some bat$### crazy behavior.

"There is no man so good, who, were he to submit all his thoughts and actions to the laws, would not deserve hanging 10 times in his life."

Michel de Montaigne

These young men made a terrible decision and will have to deal with the consequences. My father told me when I was young that there are consequences for everything you do; good or bad. Sometimes you will recover quickly from mistakes, sometimes not so quickly, and sometimes not at all.

As always, great post BigPapaVol.
