Can our defense stop Iowa's offense?

If not stop it, can we slow it down?

Keep their scoring to under 24 points?

Based on what we saw so far this bowl season, looks like the SEC's defense is weak with almost no run stop capability. How many times this weekend did we see a running back run past a DE/LB and get outside for a major gain?

We're going to play TN football. Who cares how other teams played?

This is the biggest question mark for this game to me. I think we know how our OL will do generally against this or every DL. I just hope we don't get dominated. The real question is all about our ability to stop the run on defense. We'll see. Go Vols!

Let's see,
-UT has their defensive leader out, and the back-ups aren't even close to as good. Why the hell this staff would play a true freshman import who barely understands the game over a more experienced Bynum is beyond insane.
-Three top WRs out.
-A horrible O-line that has shown no sign of improvement.

And yet the majority of fans think UT will have a cake walk win. Why? Because Butch has catchy slogans? Give me a break.

I think it will be a good game but yeah there are questions, especially with our defensive issues. I'm just happy to be able watch the vols today. GBO!

And Maggitt has stepped up as a leader on the field as well. While I hate not having the natural like AJ, Maggitt has had a month to grow into that leadership position and rally the defenses. He already started doing it in the last couple of games.

We do have three WRs out. But we also still have VP, Pig, Malone and Johnson in play. And Jenkins, Wharton and Carter that can play as well. It's not all doom and gloom here.

The O line hasn't shown improvement, I'll agree. But they've had a month to game plan for a single team. Let's just wait and see on this one.

Most don't think it will be a cake walk. And I think the team will have to be especially sharp to win. But they are hungry for this win. And I'll take that kind of mentality every day of the week.

If we can adjust to the loss of AJ at the LB position, after all the extra practice time, I think we will be fine and able to stop the run. We struggled, which was no surprise, when we had to unexpectedly replace AJ at the end of the season. Now whoever is in there will have had a lot more first team rep's and feel more comfortable.

Alabama was hurt by injuries and the fact that I think they were looking towards the NC game and really did not focus like they should have on tosu. I said this in another post, I think LSU's D was not focused because I am sure they knew before the game Chief was gone, MSU had to prepare for the toughest offense to stop in GT's without a DC. OM just sucked in their game.

We may get beat today, but I do not think we will. I think we win rather handily in the end. I think unlike some of our SEC breathern who were not excited about the bowl they were in, or were distracted by other outside issues, we are excited to be bowling again and the AJ issue ancient history in the minds of teenagers.

The only concern I have against Iowa that we can not equalize is age. Iowa is a much more Jr, Sr laden team. They have been through the rigors of bowl weeks before, we have not. If our young guys do not lose to much focus eatting ribs and looking at Jag's cheerleaders then we will be fine.

All that said, the D gets it done today. I my concern is still the O line. If they give JD some time and the backs some running lanes, we protect the ball then the VOLS roll. I think the game hinges on the O line and turnovers, not the D.

No the why has nothing to do with Butch. It has more to do with some fans thinking because Iowa is a B1G team and we are an SEC team we will blow them out, which is foolish.

And we are getting Nike...

FSU has Nike too. Eveyone has Nike, it's no big deal.

I would rather see the Vols with Under Armor what they have done with Notre Dame's uniforms is awesome!

I hope Nike doesn't force changes to UT's logo's and uniforms like the did to FSU's last year!!

The UT uniforms made by Adidas the past two seasons reflect the tradition and history of UT perfectly. Therefore, no changes are wanted or needed!!

Bynum isn't starting because he has a bone in his leg.

If by getting real you mean agreeing that SEC defenses (including ours) should NOT be sucking and giving up those types of big plays than we agree. Anything else would mean accepting lower standards (of non SEC conferences) - which is always unacceptable.

Yep.. Tennessee has to worry about Tennessee.
THIS! #1 rule in football is don't beat yourself. Limit our own mistakes and we'll be okay. Shoot ourselves in the foot like giving a fumble away in our own end zone for a game winning TD as we did against UGA or countless other mistakes we've made this year and we'll make winning difficult. GBO!
