Let's be honest

If you really want to be honest, Tennessee is a lifetime 0.681 program and 0.671 since 1970. That means 7-8 wins a year.

Is that so hard to figure? Georgia, Alabama, and Florida are 3 tough games - given their up more than they are down, UT is 8 W's. Add in a tough loss elsewhere and there you have it.

Still, those programs can and do dip. And when they do, UT has to duke it out with LSU or Auburn for what's left.

So, if we are really honest - UT is an 8-3 program that may win the SEC once every 10 years. That's being honest.

Change your name. Also, our win % was higher before our decline which coincided with bama's rise. At that point in time we were 2% different than bama. So why are they allowed to be considered a great program and because TN has made bas decisions we are no longer allowed to attempt to be great again?

Also we haven't won anything in 20yrs. Also averages are based on highs and lows, therefore we should purse as high because our average is now trending down

... we have a good chance against both Kentucky and Vanderbilt University.

A sad commentary on the state of UT Volunteers football.

I sometimes wonder if full contact football will be banned before Tennessee has a chance to be in contention for another SEC or National Championship.

I don't think I will.

First, look at the OP and what he said: "Things are not going to get better. They really aren't. If fans will be honest with themselves, they know this. What can the AD do to change our minds?"

My point was that the AD has created the conditions for the record we have. That's where we are at today. I'm not judging, just stating a fact. To recap, UT is a 7-4 or 8-3 team except when FL and UGA have down years ... and that's when we shine. Or rather, should shine.

UT does not have as good a talent base as GA, AL, SC, FL and perhaps PA. So, UT is going to have to out recruit, out coach, and outplay a lot of folks to deal with a very tough schedule.

Are they doing that? No. IMO. That's answers the OP's question.

As to the General, he coached 21 years and delivered an 0.829 winning record. But, he lost 2 or more games 9 times. Again, that means teams cycle.

The problem with UT is they think it's the coach. They, the AD and the Haslams, have been unable to deliver sustained success in a total program.

So THAT'S what the AD has to show us. A plan to deliver sustained success despite the coach.

PS. If you remove Neyland's accomplishments, UT's modern winning percentage is much lower. That the AD doesn't address this is disappointing.

I love how you left out the 12th game.
Either you forgot that we now play 12 regular season games.
Or, for you, it’s just a given that we lose to Bama.
So, you only judge us on the other 11 games?

No we arent as irrelevant as with Dooley. Thats just a dumb statement. Dooley never had us ranked in the top 15. Nor did Dools win a bowl game, let alone 3. I get most of us are upset with Nutch and want him gone, but if ypu are being truly honest, then you cannot say we are just like the Dooley years. Because its just demonstrably false.

Not yet.

We fans have hung in there for the past 15 years with really nothing showing things WILL EVER improve. We have bought tickets and concessions, watched on TV, bought merchandise, but we are as irrelevant today as we were when Dooley was coaching. Things are not going to get better. They really aren't. If fans will be honest with themselves, they know this. What can the AD do to change our minds?

Agree. And whether it's the ad, a new coach... Whatever... Someone needs to to at least acknowledge that there has been two constants over the last 10ish years.... Average to below average football with a lot of losing to all of our rivals... And 2nd, the fans that have witnessed it all.... With 4 different coaches.

I think this is one area cbj didn't do a good enough job. And is a large reason why he never got embraced fully by fans.

And something Currie and whoever the next coach is need to realize and embrace.
