Let's be honest (this weekend)

EVERY year for the past 16 years, we have heard:

Next year will be better. This year was supposed to be really good, but due to __________ it wasn't.

Ummmm, no we haven't. No one said that at all during the Dooley years. And we had no expectations the first year of CBJ. Maybe you were listening to outsiders or voices in your head? :)

Yes, every year there is hope that the future will be better. That is human nature. It happens in every program's fan base. And it shouldn't be surprising to anyone.

Neat thing about our program is, for the past three years, it has been true. 7 wins is better than 5, and 9 is better than 7. Will it be true again this year? Fingers crossed, we could be in a 10-win season.

So yeah, hope springs eternal, and as long as Butch maintains his upward trajectory, we should all be thankful (even the crybabies who wanted us to jet from 5 Ws to 15 in his first three years).

Even during the Dooley years we heard that next year would be better. JP, while I agree that last year was better than the previous year, this year isn't over yet, and I believe the jury is still out as to whether the same can be said for this year over last.

The whole Hurd, Williams, Kongbo crazy train coupled with 100 injured players has really put a monkeywrench in what should have been a stellar year.

We should win more games than last year, but let's wait and see on the whole better than last year verdict.

Yeah, TallGuy, I do think injuries and a couple of prima donna attitudes have gotten in the way of what coulda been an even better year. But I think we're seeing a bit too much of a knee-jerk reaction among the fan base, confusing "coulda been better" with "it's worse."

Fact is, one truly disappointing game against USCe and some locker room drama from an unlikely source aside, we've had a pretty spectacular season so far even through all the injuries. Cardiac kid moments galore, but still exciting football that largely ended each week in the W column.

And, thankfully, still more football to go. I almost dread this time of year, when you can see less than a handful of games still ahead, and can just see that loooong, painful off-season looming behind them. Gonna hang on to every minute of football we still have, certainly not gonna spend it crying in my cheerios about what coulda been (I know you're not doing this either, just thinking about the significant and loud minority of VolNation who are).

Go Vols!

The USCjr game was the straw that broke the camels back for a lot of people, on the success of this year. Agree or not, it's not easy to argue.

If we make it to Atlanta, no doubt this will have been a good year.

The Beatdown of Florida was just AMAZING.

The miracle in Athens was outstanding.

The massacre in Knoxville (at the hands of Bama) really hurt.

The A&M Fumblefest was discouraging.

The NoShow in Columbia, SC was inexcusable.

The off the field garbage (locker room, sidelines, social media, etc) has to stop.

We had some really talented players this year, and they really deserved better.
