Let This Sink In

So what's weird about the ROTC/military component? Did you know that ROTC was compulsory at land grant schools - including UT - at least into the 1960s. It probably wouldn't hurt if everyone learned a bit about the military today, but with current social trends that would certainly be an uphill battle not worth fighting. It's good to have some places that still have a respect for more traditional values.

Great point. If not for the ROTC Neyland may have never darkened our door step. Too many people without knowledge of history do not understand what an intregal part of American society the military has been. The effect of re-writing history in the modern era has only led to the real meaning of ignorance

That is one weird school. Closely resembles a cult. I'm not just referring to the story above, but I've heard some strange things that go on there

we certainly don't have much room to talk about weird things going on at other schools.....butt chugging is the first thing that comes to mind:crazy:

LOL. But that's just a few isolated frat boys.

But I guarantee you if we are 6-0 at sundown on Saturday, some furniture that never hurt anybody is going up in flames in the Fort.

aTm is a Pseudo Military Academy. Their fans are rabid and devoted as they put up with being dominated by Texas for so many years. I respect that.

I enjoy their traditions. I always thought they would be a good fit with the SEC. Did they ever bring back the bonfire? I thought I had hear that they were or were thinking about bringing it back

I'd take A&M straight up against TX for the last 5 years. Yesterday's gone.

Yep that's it. So for tradition they still have all male cheerleaders and they are members of the Corp of Cadets.

Also they don't have alumni. They have an Association of Former Students. Again tradition that goes back to WWII. So many cadets left school early to enlist and never returned that at some point they made that change. Not sure of details.

A&M still turns out a very high number of officer candidates for a non academy school. Maybe only VMI and the Citadel higher? Not sure.

IIRC, A&M has produced the most general officers other than the USMA

Robert Neyland attended A&M for a year and played football there before transferring to West Point. So, we can't be all bad

From Wikipedia.

Neyland attended Burleson Junior College in his home town of Greenville, Texas for a year and then transferred to Texas A&M playing football a year before receiving an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York,

The ROTC is about 2000 students of 60000 undergrad. It is highly over represented in the media for obvious reasons, the uniqueness.

Just under 45,000 undergrads with a total student population of roughly 65,000. Knew that sounded wrong but huge nonetheless.

I attended Blinn College in College Station my freshman year and later transferred to UT. I attended quite a few games that year. It is a great atmosphere. The traditions are great as well. Second best behind UT in my opinion. The 12th man is real. It was always rockin. And that was before their expansion. I'm predicting a win for us in our first true road test. It's going to be hostile and fun!

GO VOLS!!!

I went to the cotton bowl back in the day and the A&M fans were all super cool to me and my dad. We were right in the middle of all of them.

On Saturday we are playing a team whose fans are so stupid that they have to practice yelling.

A pep rally with the team is one thing but for home games they have midnight yell practice. No way the team is there.

Apparently the yell leaders that lead these practices are elected by the student body, and they are swimming in the *****! You'll see why if you watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foILYGRVIXw

One thing they do is cool however,

"When One Aggie Scores, All Aggies Score." When the Aggies score a touch down, safety, or field goal, everyone in the student body who has brought a date to the game kisses his/her date."

I clicked your link and I hate myself and you for it. But at least I now hate them more.
