Let’s get Taron Dickens

WCU lost to East Tennessee by 17. We put 72 on them and both Merk and GMAC got into the game. Dickens threw for over 400 yards against ETSU, but the fact that they lost by three possessions at home to the Bucs just makes me question his level of competition versus the stats he was able produce.
I get ur point but 46/46 is insane at any level.

Cignetti's tangible experience...6'5" 225 lbs. vs 5'10" 180 lbs. Background for Cignetti's tangible experience...transferred from Cal vs Western Carolina.

If he becomes a Vol, I'll support him, but definitely not the route I would take, unless he's just for emergencies.

we need to be looking to bring WCU's wide receiver coach on to the Vols' staff. For the qb to have these stats, their WR's must know how to create separation and have great hands!

Why do you all keep saying that? He brought in Hooker who was amazing. At the last minute he had to scrounge and bring in Aguilar who was the #2 passer in the SEC this season after Chambliss. Milton won a BCS bowl and is now in the NFL. And Nico got us to the playoffs his first season. Yes, it was a run heavy offense, but he still threw for over 2000 yards and had 19 td's as a freshman who handed the ball off to Dylan Sampson. GMAC had a stellar offer list out of high school and Faizon was the #1 qb in the latest recruiting class. I think CJH is doing pretty good with his quarterback acquisitions.
Agreed that he has been pretty good. He should set the bar higher than that.

Nico is a better QB than Joey A. Nico is a head case but he's going to an NFL Combine at some point, Joey A isn't.

Milton is QB2 at Dallas, Hooker is either on the practice squad or buried in the depth chart in NY, I think.

There's nothing wrong with Josh Heupel's QB evaluations. There are issues with his system being the best fit for QBs he likes, but not his evaluations of talent.

More talented. Not better. There is a difference.

Physical superiority isn't the most important thing in college. There is no denying Dante Moore is 10x more talented than Dillon Gabriel. But Dillon Gabriel was significantly better in 2024 than Moore was in 2025, in the same offense.

It’s apparent that Heupel can’t seem to develop a QB from high school. The Vols haven’t started a QB recruited from high school since G-Man (2017-2020). Heupel has had 5 years to coach up a QB he recruited and can’t get it done so I guess we’ll just use the portal to recruit experienced QB’s over GMac and Faizon in the future.

That's the wave of the future. I believe all the QBs in the semis of the CFP were transfers. A lot of the recent rings were won by guys, not just QBs, who transferred.

Like it or not. Team building isn't what it used to be.

How is Nico better than JA?

Agreed and I put it incorrectly. Josh has an issue picking guys with talent but not the guys who fit in his system.

He WANTS to believe that he'll find a gifted QB who will be perfect for his system and that would be great for us. It seems that it's not physical gifts that make a great Josh Heupel QB, it's quick decisions and correct reads.

If we get that guy with God given gifts and the mind that can read like Josh wants them to, we're going to win and win big.

As I said in the other other threads I've seen him mentioned in here. Like his stats and don't matter the level those are baller numbers
With that being said, does he have an agent or something hyping him up. I've seen multiple thread about him here and on a vols reddit
He is about the only one left that fits are needs.

Hendon Hooker was recruited to UT by Pruitt. CJH recruited Joe Milton here because he didn't think Hooker was good enough. Hooker is the best QB he has had since he got here and he didn't even recruit him. No doubt CJH has a good offensive mind. But IMO his evaluations so far as to who is best to run his offense is mediocre at best. JMO.

We started a QB last year that was recruited out of highschool. Made the playoffs and everything. Nico wasn't carrying the team by any means, but he definitely started.

LOL. Forgot about that guy. Easy to do. He wasn’t memorable by any stretch. I couldn’t stand the guy but hoped he’d turn into something useful. Still, he was billed as “Generational” and was far from that. Couldn’t read a defense, didn’t go through progressions, etc…. I’d like to see Heupel truly develop a QB at least to “very good” status, if not to elite status. He’s not doing that so I have to wonder is it him or Halzle that can’t coach up a QB.

Been saying this as he was announced. I feel like I could throw the ball harder than he can.
Yep. You start someone like that in the SEC and the dbs will bat down and pick most of what he’s had success doing
I'm sure they said the same thing about Trinidad chambliss B4 he balled out for Ole Miss. Regardless we need a 3rd QB. If the kid is available I say get him. It's definitely worth a shot and u have to have a backup QB especially in the SEC. I think it would be foolish not to give Taron a look at least.

You don't put together those kind of numbers wo having a real talent regardless.

Dickens is close to signing with Syracuse I’m hearing. I expect he will do very well there. Our “pride” cost us a potential baller IMO
