Les Miles

nothing has changed in our situation perception wise, and i still find it doubtful that even with the AD change, any big name coaches that many of us wanted are in play...again, or at all.

i think if you start looking at the landscape, and boil it down to "knowns", "wants" "needs", it starts to look a little like this:

Lane Kiffin is not getting this job.
Gary Patterson just signed an extension
Peterson isn't leaving UW for this job, in it's current state
if John Gruden was, call it considering the job before, i can't believe that he views it as more attractive now. if he coaches again, he's going to the NFL.
Frost and Mullen are off the table.
Cutcliffe, Gundy, Doeren, Brhom all said no.
Leach had an offer taken off the table, and i would doubt it that Fulmer would pursue, and not sure Leach would take it now anyway
i just don't want Norvell. was not impressed with his game management Saturday....at all.

i think Fulmer is/has/will talk to some of these guys again just to make sure nothing that's happened with us might have changed their mind.

i also think Fulmer knows what many of us know, there is a formula that can work for us in our current situation, and Les Miles with Tee Martin checks most, if not all, the boxes.

and i know all the arguments against both. and i'll even agree with you. i've siap, a week and a half ago, i was a hard "no" to both of these guys.

but things have changed, and while i'll acknowledge and agree with any limitations most anyone would bring up....as quick as we are to say "they might fail" or "what if they suck?"

what if they're great? i mean really.......what if Tee Martin is THAT guy, and we get him early enough to prosper from it? isn't that worth taking a chance on? to me, it's at least worth the same chance as passing on him because he might fail.........

like i said, i get all the criticisms of both of these guys. but if you can get them both on the same staff.......that would be hard to ignore for me, at this point. i'm a firm yes, this week, to that scenario playing out.

Well there's always Taggert, Sumlin and Strong that we could hire...Oh wait never mind.

Doesn't develop QB's at all.

We have a 5 star QB with 3 years of eligibility left who needs major developing.

I am not against Les being coach. I am against the Les/Tee partnership people are talking about regardless of the "feel good" story.

Tee is a WR coach and coordinator. Les' track record with QB's is horrible.

This is not a good marriage.

Because I don’t like the guy. Simple as that. He’s stubborn and hard headed. Read about how he interfered with Cam Cameron’s offense every chance he could. Ask any LSU fan.

I feel that the game has passed him by and that even when LSU told him to update his offense he was unable to do so and that is what got him fired.

Just about any coach will be left behind at some point as the game always continues to evolve, so I am not trying to be overly negative and I have nothing personal against the man as he had a good run.

Miles would not be my first choice at all but who else is Fulmer looking at that is better? BTW LSU fans will miss the days of Miles after a couple more seasons with Ed O running the show.

Why do some seem so baffled by the Les hate? He clearly had his worst years at LSU before he was fired and it was directly related to his inability/refusal to invite any sort of offensive creativity.

It makes little sense to me to fire a guy who underperformed on the offensive side of the ball with top 10 talent and replace him with a guy who underperformed on the offensive side of the ball with top 5 talent. Albeit, I don't think Les Miles will have any disastrous 4-8 type seasons like Butch, but I also feel like it's basically equivalent to saying "we're OK with 8-5 seasons and finishing 3rd or 4th in the East for the next 3-5 years."

I'd rather take a chance on Tee Martin than hiring Miles. Tee will bring in top recruiting classes. Tee has been running one of the most successful offenses in college football. He's no guaranteed success, but I feel like the downside of Tee isn't much worse than the downside of Les Miles, and the upside is significantly higher.

There aren't many, if any, coaches who have accomplished so little with so much talent except Al Golden - the greatest underachiever of the 2010s.

stubborn, wouldn't even change when faced with losing his job.

offenses at LSU despite sending WR after WR after WR and RB's etc....in to the NFL, LSU offenses were stale and unproductive.

he's 64. he's not a long term option.

his quirkiness during games walks a fine line between genius and plain crazy....let's face it, had some of those trick plays and 4th down gambles backfired early on his career, he'd of been labeled a terrible game manager, to go a long with his infamous mis management of the clock and situational football.

1 week ago, there's no way i wanted that guy to be our coach. it just didn't make sense with the roster we have returning and, at the time, the general condition of the program going forward.

today, he, coupled with the right offensive coordinator, could provide a good bridge from now, until we're out of the mess we are in, which i suspect may take a couple years.

long story short, he makes more sense today where a week ago, he really didn't. and i understand why those that are still against hiring him feel the way i do. situation has changed though, and i see a path now where he can be useful, even if not uber successful.

He was fired for a reason. Might as well also approach Mack Brown at least his Natty was his and not one where Saban left him a full plate.

I like Les but he is not what UT needs at this time. Need some excitement and done strong offensive production. With the highly ranked QB’s on roster wouldn’t Kiffin be a better choice in this end? I think at 42 Lane could light that fire needed to bring UT back to the top. Hire the right assistants and in no way will it be worse than we have seen.

If Taggart really goes to FSU, Les should hire Mario Christobal at OC.

Giddy up

ANY LSU fan? Isn't that pretty broad? I have heard quute a few say that firing him was a mistake. Just saying....
