Les Miles

OH Leach. Well I’d be completely happy with Leach and the players and press would love him too. Just don’t think if they wanted him they would have fired Currie for getting him.

Well he coached in the West. I don’t know what his record is against Fla and Ga but to say Les is mediocre is not accurate. If you wanna say he is old or quirky or whatever then that’s fine. But I’d put his resume up against anybody out there. Who is the guy you want? We may be in agreement after all. I just don’t know who you want.
It does not matter what his record was against Florida and Georgia. Those 2 teams will be on another level for the foreseeable future. We need a coach who can win against superior talent. I think one such coach who fits that category is Mike Leach.

Haha! That is a funny joke. Mullen has been winning at MS, which is traditionally one of the worst SEC teams. He has had nothing but 2 and 3 stars and will be awesome at Florida with their talent level. Also, Florida always beats us regardless of who is on their sideline. Meanwhile, Les Miles was pretty mediocre and got fired from LSU, one of the best programs of the new millennium. Ed Orgeron is winning there for Christ's sake! If our best option is a washed up coach that nobody wants we are in deep doo doo.

Mediocre huh?

So he must of retired right? Since he was so great, surely the fans and administration must have begged him to stay?

And what we all need to come to terms with is that no coach mentioned in our search is going to beat Bama, UGA, AND UF in the same season. We’ll be lucky to go 1-2 against those teams no matter who our coach is.

Again,
He took over for Saban at a program that always has elite talent. All those numbers tell me is he was not incompetent even though he had multiple losses nearly every year. But there is a big difference between being competent and great.

You can’t have out both ways and say Miles won with Saban’s Talent and not admit that LSU right now is surviving on Miles talent.
My point was LSU always has great talent... Any halfway decent coach is going to win 9 or 10 games a year there. I brought up him taking over for Saban because he took over the year after Saban's national title! That is a huge advantage.

Who doesn’t have multiple losses every year? Not many coaches. And certainly none we can get. I understand you want Leach. I’d take him in a heartbeat. But can you just admit that Les has a pretty damn good resume? And just say you don’t want him because you think Leach is a better choice. Saying Miles record is mediocre is where you are losing support. Hell everybody wanted Leach, but our admin, and maybe Fulmer himself helped nip that in the bud. Because I think we had him just about signed sealed and delivered.

I don't share your opinion. I would be good with Les. Anyone we hire will be a gamble. I think his upside is better than most of the coaches that have been thrown out there. There are definitely other coaches I would be fine with a well but they don't look like likely possibilities right now.

And let’s not forget the last 4 years of his tenure he went up against powerhouse Bama, Manziel led A&M, Cam Newtons Auburn, and Dak Prescotts Miss St. maybe even Urban Meyers Florida? Can’t remember..

Saban was 9-3 his last year at LSU.

So, no.

You just don't throw players on the field and by magic their recruiting stars just win games.

His offense was a chore for his fans to watch. Never could coach a QB, and lost to Bama every year. Fans got sick of him and his boring style, despite winning. Also, 64 yrs old, and had a cushy tv gig for a few years, dunno how much he is going to give. He is not an exciting hire. Worse options, but if we turned down Leach to get him I am not excited.

The West had 5 teams in the top 20 through most of Miles career there. ‘Half way decent” coaches did not win 10 games a year only the good ones survived. Check his record against Mullin who was the hottest name going a few weeks ago.

That NC was mostly with his players, some Saban recruits but at least three years of his. I get where you are coming from but there isn't a coach out there that can meet some peoples expectations.

Even the great Saban had to sneak into the playoff this year. It's college ball and I will take 10+ wins a year with a NC sprinkled in.
