Hey I'm not against Chip at all!!! Him and les Miles are my personal #1& #2

I'm just concerned on another "learn how to win in the SEC coach"

We think Chip Kelly would have success here but don't know for sure. Know from Chip Kelly's own admission he only recruits speed. You need size & weight in SEC

It's just a concern not a huge one because he is a proven winner in college

Every coach has negatives. Even Kelly and Gruden. Can you show me evidence that proves his way doesnt work in the SEC? His stats prove everything you say wrong. Thats a fact. If you disagree, then provide your proof.

You are using our fanbase as something for a basis? Give me a break. Those who made fun of Miles would have killed to have his type of production he had at LSU. Ask anyone. If they say no, then they are lying through their teeth.

There are NO perfect coaches. But Miles is a proven winner and has what it takes to win at a high level in the SEC. If you disagree with both statements, then again, provide your evidence that supports it.

Part of the interview process with AD's and Coaches is talking about coaching philosophy.

Business 101 tells us that you have to change the product (Les as a Coach) to keep demand high.

The only thing that held Les back at LSU the last few years was having a quality OC. I am pretty sure he knows that.


Also it is a major insult comparing Butch to Les Miles.

It’s not really a dumb statement at all if you truly think about it. I’m a pretty intelligent guy. :)

Also, I’m not comparing Butch & Miles with their overall winning percentages.

I’m comparing them personality wise. Stubborn coaches who can’t manage a football game to save their lives. Both are fixing to be jobless due to not wanting to change their style of play.

Miles had chances to change at LSU, that’s what ya’ll fail to realize. They wasn’t picking on him just to be mean. Due to his continuous poor QB development and offense, he was failing to win big games.

He’s not the same coach that was dominating 10 years ago. His best years are behind him. Unfortunately, some of us fail to see that.

Realistic or not, I think all of those would have success here at UT.

I like the list. 1 & 4 are the only realistic options I see for Tennessee right now.

I'd love/hate to be wrong on Gruden. Out of coaching for 9 years I question his ability to assemble a staff being out of the loop in "coaching not broadcasting" and his never recruiting in a recruiting league cause my hate side

The reason he didn't develop QB's in the last 2-3 years is because he went cheap on OC's. If we hire him, we don't give him that opportunity. Make him hire a talented OC and there are no issues. AD's can easily force this.

Again, we both have our opinions.

If Currie hires Miles, I would love nothing more for him to prove me wrong that he’s willing to change and take on the expectations.

I’ll continue to have my doubts but if it happens, it happens.

You really don't understand business and economics. For Les to get another big job, he has to change his offensive philosophy. That is a fact. For him to come to Knoxville, he will change his offensive philosophy.

I believe Les Miles being away from football this year has given him time to self evaluate what went wrong on offense at LSU. Being able to step away and see it clear. So him hiring a top flight OC I don't see as a issue.

There is only one draw back to hiring Les Miles to me and that's having to play Alabama twice a year most years.

And that's a great "problem" to have.

I guess my take on Les Miles is his record at LSU in the SEC West.


Everyone keeps saying he is just like Butch? Stuborn? maybe, but all coaches are that.


Unproven? NO
Won at a high level in the SEC? YES
Knows how to run a program? YES
A little long in the tooth? Yes
Younger than Saban? YES
Buyout? NO $$$$
Would come? I believe he would
WIN? ABSOLUTELY and would go to SEC championship game often
Gruden coming? NO
Stoops? NO
Frost? Probably not
Fuentes (sp)? Maybe


I dont understand why we wouldnt look at Miles. We have been through enough up and comers for several years. He is available, there is no buyout and he would come and win. You could fire Butch saturday and bring him in right away.

How many years do they owe him for and how much? Other opportunities out of football coaching or out of the SEC?

$125,000 per month for probably another 5.5+ years. The total was around $9m+ at the end of last year. This gets offset by any money he receives in income.

LSU just got a new AD at that time and ifyou don't know there were a lot of politics played into letting him go. They currently regret that move. Les Miles is a great coach and knows how to win in the SEC. Avery good choice.

He would not be my first choice. I have those handful of tier one guys.(stoops,Kelly, Patterson, Gruden, Franklin etc) but by some chance we don't get one of the top tier guys.

I would take Les Miles in the tier 2 category. He's a proven winner. Physical teams and developed his players. The thing with Les he would have to hire proven coordinators and let them coach. He would do really well in the east.

Once again not my first choice but if we're down to tier 2 or 3 I would take him over alot of those names

Who is "they"? No, it would have been a freaking disaster if Les would have stayed. imo Last year and definitely this year.

Its going to be a rough go for a bit, a ton of that is on Leslie.

You have to realize where Tennessee is right now as a job for a coach. That first tier you mentioned only Kelly is even a possibility. Any other interest from those other coaches would be false from their agents brokering extensions and raises at their current jobs.

Gruden a coach out of coaching for 9 years with no recruiting experience in 20+ years is a joke

More like too hard headed at times, he needed to adjust. Being stubborn can be a good quality and it can be a bad quality - very apparent against Wisconsin that it wasn't working anymore.

This year would have been a disaster with Les, might still be - with him it would have been epic in size.
