Legitimate HC options

Blackburn will hire Cutcliffe, who wants to come home to retire on top. Boosters would be happy. Most fans would be satisgied. Peyton would be giddy.

If he can win at Duke, he can take the East consistently here.

He will be here at least 2 more years thanks to his cliche' talk getting him a 2 year contract extension. They may buy him out of 2 years but i don't think they will buy him out of 4 years.

Although I think the idea of hiring a new coach isn't economically feasible (said as if I have any notion of the cost and available resources), I would just offer that it wouldn't make sense to hire with our current AD. If it was up to me, I would look for a way to get Hart to leave now. I would then hire Peyton Manning as INTERIM AD, and he would be the figurehead of finding HC candidates. I wouldn't entrust hiring a new coach to Hart, at this point.

Is there anything Peyton can't do? Why not make him the president of this university?

Yep, but we'll have 20 more of these threads before 12 today 😬

I actually thought I would try to put some legit names out there instead of just starting another "fahr Butch" thread, although I think CBJ probably gets another year and once we go 7-5 next season the new AD can make his own hire.

Proven winners. Not 1 or 2 year wonders.
Urban Meyer (UF, Ohio St. & has beat Saban)
Paul Johnson (Georgia Southern, Army & Georgia Tech)
Gary Peterson
These guys have improved every program that they have moved to.
Only problem is Butch's buyout is to large.
Got to hit UT in the pocketbook before they take notice. Donate to the school
not the athletic department. Quit buying season tickets. Do you really want
to spend your money to watch this garbage?

You just have to look past anything that mentions Peyton Manning like I do. The guy has a great legacy behind him. Why would he want to tarnish it with the soup sandwich we're dealing with? Some just don't get it I guess.

I don't understand the infatuation with Les Miles. Guy got canned for a reason

They were down on him last season and he supposedly told them he would change and adjust and coach to the players ability and he didn't do that so they fired him. Hmmm sounds familiar

Maybe Blackburn or new AD comes in and wants to make their own hire. If so, who are legitimate options:

1. Miles - he would be my first call. He's a brand name and proven winner.
2. Briles - again, a proven winner. Obviously, his issues at Baylor would have to be well vetted in advance.
3. Petrino - Louisville's losses at the end of the year take some shine off of this one.
4. Kiffin - he's getting a HC job somewhere again soon, although I cannot fathom it being UT. Maybe Houston or Oregon or one more year as an OC first.
5. Fleck - this is about the level we have gone in with the last 2 hires and he's like a poor man's Tom Herman.
6. Fuente - this would be interesting, although bolting VA Tech after one year wouldn't be good.
7. Chip Kelly - would he leave San Fran after 1 season?
8. Mullen - you have to think he would listen as UT is a significant upgrade from MSU in all respects.
Others?

First, I'm not sure we're done paying off our previous bad hires/fires so it's unlikely we'll want to pay for yet another ex head coach. Second, we just hired a woman as chancellor. You have to think that was by design after all the title IX stuff we just got settled. That alone will firmly eliminate a number of names from your list. No way no how will UT send that message. Not sure we need another coach on the tail end of his career like Miles. Talk about bone headed coaching decisions, he's not known as the mad hatter for nothing. Frankly, I think we'll go our usual route and look to catch lightning in a bottle with a young, up and coming coach. He's likely going to be here a while if he's the "right one", and he'll come at a far cheaper price than big names will.

Someone is going to hire Kiffen and he will do a good job. He's a great recruiter and a great coordinator, also he will leave for a HC job. Flame away but you could get him.

That call will never be made nor would he answer the phone if it was.

Absolutely no to the first 4. Fleck would be a good choice. Also what about the coach at Colorado? Can't remember his name but he has done an outstanding job.
