I like him if he can surround himself with great recruiters and a high end DC. A Dan Mullen HC + Charlie Strong DC would be a match made in heaven.

Our best bet now would be for Houston to take CBJ off our hands.

If Dan Mullen heads to the ducks then I would entertain Les Miles. Probably get him for a decent price.

Given my dream job of being a failed FBS coach, I would say I'm available. However, I would be more successful than Butch, so that kinda spoils my dream job.

I order of want, I would make Chris Peterson, Gary Patterson, and Bob Stoops tell me no then look at Dan Mullins, Kyle Whittingham, Cutcliff, and Sumlin. From the NFL I would talk to Jim Schwartz and Mike Smith (who has roots in Tn.)
I those didn't pan out Larry Fedora, Willie Taggart, Les Miles, Charlie Strong, Brent Venables, Mike Gundy, and Jeff Brohm

I would take Les in a heartbeat.h e was 114-34 at LSU in the toughest Division in Football. Imagine what he could do in the SEC East. He would need to hire a young OC or one that is proven to develop QD,SJ and JG but he would have QB's already on campus. He would have a really good staff that could recruit. Like I said my only complaint would be his offense and lack of QB talent he had at LSU. But nothing that couldn't be fixed by hiring the right OC.

If Les made a Kiffin like hire to be OC at LSU, he would be just as good as Saban these past few years. Les was a good OC away from winning another SEC title or two.

I think Jim Bob Cooter would be an interesting choice. An all VOL candidate. Maybe bring in Tee Martin home as OC and have a good DC in place. That would reenergize the fanbase.
Also ..the Butch Jones buyout of 10 million is for 4 years and also has stipulations that any salary he makes elsewhere will be deducted. I think he will easily land a mid-tier 1 million or 1.5 million type job. So it will be around 5 million. No buyouts for OC or DC right now.

Good time to fire.

Nope. Great talent evaluator and elite defensive mind with NFL ties. Working with Urban right now. Wouldn't be in a bidding war. I see no reason why he wouldn't succeed. Get him a good OC and let's ride.

Miles or Briles! Miles might have a problem since LSU on schedule in 2017.
How about any Div II, Div. III or Div. IAA?

Mullen ain't leaving Starkville. Hell he didn't even push hard to get the Florida gig. He is a saint in Starkville and has singlehandedly upgraded everything there. His wife is very active in the community and is the Queen there. They both are very happy there and boosters will pay whatever it takes to keep him. Even then, the Mullens aren't greedy for money. They love where they are at.

Les Miles. Fire Butch and pick up Miles for about the same price as Butch, spend $$$ on getting top flight assistants. Miles doesn't need a ton of money, he's already rich, he just wants to prove himself. Hell if he doesn't come here his next option is Purdue!
