Legitimate HC options

He could if he wants out fast as some have stated

If Butch gets to leave on his terms he gets to control what is most important to him....his image. He does not want to be diminished further in the eyes of the media, and the public. His image, his pitch, is all he has left to sell. Being a recruiter, and a rebuilder, being an 8 win coach....that's plenty a lot of places. It's just not in the SEC.

If his image was important Saturday night media wouldn't have happened. I think too that a lot of places want the guy you described.

He has no career there while they are running that offense, so it wouldn't surprise me. (not sure what his contract is or his buyout) Chavis should have never went there, he is a solid defensive coordinator.... not sure both him and Les will get back together though.... late 2014 was quite a mess due to Chavis.

3293 x as many. :) (updated)

I think it's desired more than most want to admit. Not having a competent AD screws that up though

Unless Blackburn is already in place and all this ceremonial consternation is just that. No inside info, but I think he's already hired and they're not announcing it because UTC is in the playoffs and Hart is technically still the acting AD.

I wonder how invested someone like Miles would be starting at a new program at 63yo. Not a knock on his age, but the guy won a NC and had an overall good run at LSU which has got to be a top 5 place to work at. How much longer are you going to want to work year round around the clock and at what point would you rather just fish and spend time with your family? These are all rhetorical questions. Same with Rick Barnes.

I have thought that too but these days guys coach into their 70's. Saban is 65 and looks like he could coach another 10+ years if he wants. I obviously hope that doesn't happen he needs to retire after this year. But Coach's are different animals..Coaching is all they know and many aren't happy unless it's what they are doing. Les said he wanted to continue coaching so I could see him doing it another 6-10 years, especially if he is still being successful at it. Most guys want to go out on their own terms and Miles definitely didn't. I'm sure he would love to show he can still win at a high level and at a school like TN. Not saying it would ever happen but we definitely could do a lot worse. And IMO would be a huge upgrade over Butch simply because he has done it in the SEC and has won a NC and SEC Titles at an elite school like LSU. Like I posted in another thread if I'm an AD I want to know his plan on the offensive side of the ball. That was what ultimately cost him his job and is he willing to made the switch to an offense that is more modern and that would bring in the QB's, which was his one true downfall at LSU.. Everything else could stay the same because it worked but could he bring in an OC and an offensive staff that could bring in a passing offense to complement great Oline and RB play. Hell he had elite,NFL receivers every year to go along with the stable of RB's and good OLine play his team's always seemed to have.He has always had good defense's and recruiters so I'm not the least bit concerned about that side of the ball. But if he tells me yes I'm making a change on his offensive philosophy and converting to a modern day offense that upper level QB's will come play on then hell yes he is my only candidate and won't even think about plan B unless he turns down the job offer..JMO though but if I'm AD that is my first call and interview. He is a players coach and they love him so I don't think there would be many or if so very few transfers. We already have the QB's and WR's on campus, some real solid TE's,have a very good RB in JK, have an UA player selection and one of the top RB's in the country already committed plus CFA could be a very solid RB for us. Not to mention a very underrated RB from Louisiana that is a baller.. Obviously we need player and coaching upgrades on the Oline but next year will have a SR dominated Oline so whoever the OC and offensive coach's are will have plenty of talent and shiny toys to coach up. We have some DL and LB talent returning but badly need to build up depth with guys just as good or better and not just roster fillers. Definitely need to upgrade, improve on and build depth at LB and in the secondary.I don't know if the bad secondary play is lack of talent and some players just being overrated or if they are a talented group but the coaching is horrible. Considering how many steps backwards the secondary has taken the last few years and that is with an all American Cam Sutton and last year Brian Randolph played poorly most games but gets on an NFL team and was killing it till he tore his ACL I'm going with coaching. Not a fan of Martinez and don't think he is a good DB Coach at all. After Terry Fair left our secondary has done nothing but gone backwards and they they are either out of position, take horrible angles to the ball, just don't make the plays and produce very few Int's. There were rumors last year about how back the DB's footwork and technique are leads me to believe it's mostly Martinez. We have some highly recruited and highly ranked secondary players so I will reserve judgement until next season hopefully under a new DB Coach which I would almost bet anything is one of the staff changes.

I hope this is the case but I doubt it is.
Why handcuff the program and university if it's true?

I tend to agree Butch...for what that is worth. The new chancellors reported views on previous blood getting that job disturbs me a little though.

I can only hope that the "insider" info posted yesterday was true and the new Chancellor wants to clean house.

She's talking a fresh approach and Blackburn will magically fit in his hiring PC.

I agree..No DC has much chance there with the offense they run..they would need to be 3 deep at every position with 5* and Garrett type players everywhere and in the 3 deep. Not the best career move he has made.

I'm probably wrong as I have been wrong many times but it just feels like he won't be around two weeks from now much less next season

I hope you are right..my gut tells me the same thing..just feels like something is off and bout to go down..could just be wishful thinking on my part too..if he isn't gone he needs to do a complete overhaul on his coaching staff and give Shoop the chance to bring in his own guys and run his defense the way he wants and was hired to do..just not sure how damn stubborn Butch is going to be about everything but he better learn that stubbornness will have him needing to do a resume update..hope whatever happens gets done soon to salvage recruiting.

To expect butch to change is unrealistic.
He's had many opportunities to do so and hasn't
Either Butch is out, Shoop is out, or they both are.

Definitely agree with you..Some guys would rather go down in flames than to alter their ways and loosen their grips on their stubbornness.. Usually the ones that are unwilling to change and adapt are the ones that are far less successful and drown in mediocrity.

I could see CBJ bolting for a Houston and blaming the lack of an AD and wanting more stability as his reasons for leaving, which would be BS, but allows CBJ to save face, which is all he seems to care about.

Let him go. He is over his head. I've flown off the Butch Wagon.

Also, something to consider.... imagine the defense you have to practice against is TAM's offense... which is what their defense does. If you practice against a flag football offense, I have a hard time believing you can be prepared for the real thing.

The only time TAM has had a decent defense is Sumlin's first year... carry overs from the prior staff.

Garrett might be the most physical gifted player in the DE position but man does that guy cost his team year after year by playing out of position.

I say we get Petrino, especially if he'd switch to riding an Indian motorcycle.
