I think Jay Graham is probably the only former player who is now coaching I would consider.. but that's just my opinion.

I like the idea of getting former Vols on the staff. If you could get a former pro/UT player to recruit, that would have an impact if a pro player sat down in your living room offering proof that Tennessee is the highway to the Pros. Now that is a sales pitch. You know their experience alone should make them qualified to teach a position in college.

plus the fact that a former TN player would be harder for another program to steal from us...they would want to be here...GBO

Here is some inside info from a friend close to the situation:

CLK has contacted Diaz (MTSU), who is a defensive/special teams guy. Obviously CLK is taking his time and I'm sure he has contacted numerous coaches.

The source's opinion of Diaz: He definitely would make the special teams better (MTSU blocked about 10 kicks this year and used his schemes for kickoff, kickoff return, punt block and field goal block). But his real strength is recruiting south Florida. His dad is (or was, I'm not sure) the mayor of Miami. He knows everyone down there and could bring some big name recruits in there. He signed Sancho McDonald out of Booker T 2 years ago and he was the 15th rated dual threat QB in the country that year (he was injured, but still it was a big sign for Little Middle). I know he loves defense and he's making a pretty decent salary at MTSU, so I don't know for sure if he would actually go if he had to coach WR's. I know he could do it, and he would be a good addition. I think Gran knew more people in the Muck (north Palm Beach County, where Pahokee, Glades Central, Glades Day, etc. is), but Manny probably has more contacts in Dade and Broward county.

I know this may sound stupid to most if not all of u, but what about Chris Carter to replace Frank Wilson as our WR coach? I mean Carter is a coach at the same highschool that Michael Palardy plays at if I'm not mistaken. He's one of the Top 5 greatest NFL WR's ever. If he came in you know he'd get the attention of most of the Top WR's in each class.

What do you all think?

McNair is hands down the #1 choice as RB's coach. I expect him to get an offer very shortly.

No idea what is going on yet with the WR position.

My guess is he goes after African American's with both positions.

We need to concentrate on improving on special teams this year. I wouldn't mind if both the WR coach and RB coach had experience in special teams. We've improved in every other phase of the game but our special teams still suck and I feel like to be successful in the SEC that has to change.

What about
Karl Dorrell- Former UCLA Head Coach/Currently an assistant coach with the Miami Dolphins
He would make a good WR Coach.

I think he's a volunteer coach because of some type of connection. I dont think he's interested in being a career coach.

Ron Gould is being heavily pursued for the RB coaching position. Don't know if he'll accept though.

Coach Tim Conrad. Special teams coach at HS level, but not only knows special teams but knows how to train punters and kickers. Palardy's kicking coach. He also has all the connections in South Florida for recruiting purposes. He knows everyone in Florida.

I might get blasted for this but would Frank Wychek make a good coach for wr's? He works at 104.5 the zone in Nashville,or do you think he has madde his money and there would be no interest on either side. Just a question, he was a great player.

He would be a great hire....he has the ass. head coach thing going on though and I dont see us being able to do that.....but he could be great! :)

I talk from time to time with someone in the McNair household and she claims that her dad has absolutely zero interest of even thinking about going to Tennessee. The McNair's love it in Pasadena and will stay until he gets another job out west or in New Jersey where the rest of her family is. So although he was my top choice, he will not coach here.
